A day for community, movement and all things sport!

At Genesis, we don’t just treat injuries — though of course that’s a big part of what we do. Our philosophy is also built on promoting movement, strength and an active lifestyle for every age group.

And what better way to celebrate that than with our amazing junior triathletes💙

It was truly a day to get up, get out and get moving!

We have always advocated the importance of movement in attaining good health and wellbeing. The campaign, which we started a few years ago, was all about motivating people to “Get Up, Get Out, and Get Moving”. In its first year, we conquered distance; in the second, we scaled elevation as we climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. And this year with Expedition Limitless year, we hope to demonstrate the unbridled power of mental resilience, especially when it comes to weathering extremities. GuGoGm is going cold - very cold indeed (minus 30 degrees Celsius!)

By participating in Expedition Limitless, we also strive to support Isle Listen which serves to empower young minds by helping them build emotional resilience to manage life’s stresses and setbacks.

Their services are provided free of charge as they do not receive any government funding, thus relying on charitable fundraising. We mark on this journey to raise awareness and money for this incredible cause.

We hope in turn you’ll support us in this endeavour by donating to Isle Listen through this page.

At Genesis we don’t just treat patients but also educate and empower them to be active in their own recovery. We can help you too to get back to what you love doing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) less than 25% of children between the age of 6-17 years participate in 60 minutes of physical activity every day 😱

So why is movement so important in children?

Apart from improving their aerobic fitness and helping to keep their muscles and bones strong, here are a few other reasons why children should move:

☑️ It is vital to help reduce childhood obesity and other chronic diseases

☑️ It improves their quality of sleep

☑️ It reduces stress and anxiety and helps elevate their mood and general well being

☑️ It improves their attention, memory and learning capabilities of the brain

Kids can develop a wide range of musculoskeletal issues from sports injuries to postural aches and pains or problems stemming from congenital issues.

This population can also have certain unusual complaints as they are still growing. Prehab along with good education and advice can greatly help.

At Genesis Physiotherapy Clinic we specialise in treating orthopaedic and musculoskeletal complaints in children.

When spending time with our kids my husband and I always try to engage in lots of unstructured movement.

It is so important to encourage movement in children right from a very young age. This has been highlighted even more so in a post-covid world, where globally, millions of children do not get the required levels of physical activity.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the below:

👉🏻Pre-schoolers (aged 3 to 5 years) should engage in a variety of physical activities spread throughout the day for proper growth and development.

👉🏻Older Children and adolescents (aged 6 to 17 years) should include at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity each day. Most of these 60 minutes should be spent running, walking, cycling or performing any other aerobic activity that increases their heart rate. Muscle and bone strengthening is also recommended thrice a week, in the form of climbing, jumping, push-ups and running for older children and more structured programs for adolescents.

Let’s get our kids moving!!
