“Say Aahhh! This fish is a striped mackerel, which feeds by swimming through the ocean with its mouth wide open, sieving plankton out of the water with its net-like gill rakers. 🐟As soon as I saw this fish I knew I wanted to capture its unusual pose. The challenge is getting close enough to do it, because these aren’t the friendliest of fish and it took several hours until I was able to get one swimming alone, straight towards my camera like this. I love looking at all the details inside its mouth - it kind of sucks you in - just like their plankton prey.”
