पश्चिम बंगाल के दक्षिण 24 परगना ज़िले का रहने वाला ये शख्स छह साल पहले अपने 15 साथियों के साथ बंगाल की खाड़ी में हल्दिया के पास मछली पकड़ने गया था। तभी अचानक समुद्र का रुख बदल गया तेज़ तूफान उठा, लहरें बेकाबू हो गईं और देखते ही देखते ट्रॉलर पलट गया।

हर कोई समंदर की विशाल लहरों में बह गया... रवीन्द्रनाथ भी।

लेकिन वो डरने वाला नहीं था। पेशे से मछुआरा होने के कारण पानी उसका दुश्मन नहीं, साथी था। उसने हार नहीं मानी।
वो तैरता रहा… तैरता रहा… ऊपर बस आसमान, नीचे अथाह पानी।घंटे बीते, दिन बीत गए।

5 दिन तक रवीन्द्रनाथ समंदर में अकेले तैरता रहा, न खाना, न पीने का पानी, सिर्फ़ ज़िंदा रहने की जिद। जब बारिश होती, वो वर्षा जल पीकर खुद को जीवित रखता। हर पल मौत नज़दीक थी, लेकिन हिम्मत उससे ज़्यादा मज़बूत थी।

5वें दिन… क़रीब 600 किलोमीटर दूर, बांग्लादेश के कुतुबदिया द्वीप के पास, एक जहाज़ 'एमवी जवाद' गुजर रहा था। जहाज़ के कप्तान ने दूर से समंदर में कुछ हिलता देखा। ध्यान से देखा… कोई इंसान तैर रहा था!
