Posted • Am not just proud but am surprised !
Today suddenly post lunch ..suhas (my husband) told me that he needs to leave in a hurry to donate blood..I was taken by surprise thinking it’s some anniversary thingieb..but no ... a patient admitted into our hospital was in dire need of blood and was not getting it anywhere due to the present crisis ..himself and another doctor treating the patient didn’t think twice and left suddenly to donate blood also to bring it back immediately for the patient ... Isn’t it amazing how a doctor works so hard to make somebody else’s life better ?
Somewhere in some corner a doctor is beaten ..verbally abused ...threatened...and all he does in return is only SAVE LIFE !
Somewhere I read- donate blood for a reason and let the reason be life ..
Doctors don’t care about anything else when it comes to saving life ..let’s all respect and protect our doctors.

Q7: Is the corona virus as deadly as the Ebola virus ?

A7: Any serious viral infection is going to hit the body hard.. some people can cope up with it, while some cant. The problem is how the virus plays around with your immune system. In Case of Ebola, the striking feature was bleeding - which rapidly cause patient collapse.. sometimes so fast that the virus simply couldn't spread faster to infect others- thereby cutting off one of the things necessary for it to survive.In the case of the Corona virus, the virus seems to be learning and adapting, at the same time hitting the immune system with such force that the resulting immune response of the body causes a massive organ system shutdown , and causes deaths. Not all the infected are dying though, which means that the human immune system will also adapt eventually.

Q6: Why is no vaccine available against the Coronavirus ?

A6: Virii in general, are very very clever when it comes to survival. They are the 'Delta force snipers' of the microbial world. Their secret strategy is to "infect,adapt, mutate, propagate". Some Virii mutate very very slowly or not at all..allowing scientists to create vaccines against them.. while others mutate so rapidly, that by time scientists catch up to the virus, it might have already undergone several mutations, thus making the vaccine less effective. Think of the slow mutants like iceman (from the x- men) and fast mutants like Rogue (read up on her powers). Case in point are the Influenza viruses, which are rapid ones and hence newer vaccine strains are required every year.

Q5: What precautions can one take to prevent Coronavirus infection?

A5: 1) Be clean- wash hands or use sanitizer after shaking hands or handling clothes/utensils of a suspected infectious person.
2) if you develop high fever, breathlessness, severe cough, bodyache etc.. consult your physician and get relevant tests done.
3) If you are having the flu, be sure to take precautions not to spread it around. Take a day or two off work and rest. Its also probably a good idea to wear a mask (preferably N95)
4) Have a healthy diet, fruits, veggies and top up on vitamins. Keep yourself hydrated well.
5) Report any case of suspected illness to the health authorities. The patient might be too sick to do it himself/herself.

Q4: How on earth did the corona virus get to humans?
A4: The corona virus is pretty smart at survival. It Adapts and mutates at a rapid rate, thus fulfilling its self protective "shift-drift" mechanism. When it encounters a new species to infect, it will integrate its genetic material to the host genetic mechanism in a subtle yet effective manner, tweaking its code to survive and multiply. It thus 'jumps' species. On its journey to the human species, the virus has jumped through poultry, civets, camels, bats and what not.. before it reached us.

Q3: Why does every virus outbreak seem to be happening in China?

A3: A virus loves an area with a dense population, moist air and. enough host species of animals and birds to propagate and sustain. China is a beautiful country with ample resources, excellent topography and a rich diversity of fauna..all of which serve as ideal ecological factors needed for the virus to establish its niche.

Q1: Where in the blazes did it come from?

A1: Coronavirii have been probably around for centuries, its just that their symptoms might have just been labeled as a common cold. The first identification of the virus happened in the 1930s, and thirty years later, the first human strains were found.. by researchers in the UK and USA. The first cases were reported way back then in young children and medical students!. Every now and then the virus changes its strain and spreads to newer areas.
