Constant exposure to blue light over time could damage retinal cells and cause vision problems such as age-related macular degeneration. It can also contribute to cataracts, eye cancer and growths on the clear covering over the white part of the eye.
When outdoors, wearing sunglasses with high quality lenses that block sunlight and wearing computer glasses that have a special blue light filter while using cell phone and other digital devices can help.

Myth: Pink eye is always contagious.
Fact: while certain types of pink eye are very contagious- such as the kinds caused by viruses or bacteria, other types like allergic or chemical conjunctivitis are not contagious and can’t be passed from person to person.
Myth: only school aged children get pink eye.

1. Corneal ulcer- Most corneal ulcers are due to an infection of the eye. With ulcers, patients experience mild to severe eye pain and discharge. Contact lens wearers are more susceptible to ulcers if bacteria gets trapped under the lens.
2. Corneal dystrophy- A group of eye disorders that cause a build up of foreign material in the layers of the cornea. Some patients may not have symptoms of corneal dystrophy right away but could have decreased vision and eye discomfort as a result.
3. Corneal abrasion- a superficial scratch on the cornea of the eye. Corneas are easily scratched by dust particles, dirt, sand, wood shavings or even the edge of a piece of paper. Because the eye is a very sensitive, patients may feel significant pain until they seek treatment.

It often happens with people who have an autoimmune condition. This is where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue.
