Up on The Health Collective: A lovely piece by on The Emotional Lives of Teenagers by .damour including a recommendation for all adults to read the chapter on Gender & Emotion (and a reminder that we should check our own biases). This is a must-read and the book is suffused with insight and humour, as our reviewer shares.

A week before World Mental Health Day, featuring a new book, Bandaged Moments. This is a collection of short stories of (and around) Mental Health by women writers across India. Edited by academics Nabanita Sengupta and Nishi Pulugurtha, this book features 26 stories translated into English from 17 languages.

It is a one-of-a-kind book, offering insight into many different Indias that perhaps don’t always get centre-stage. This is an important collection, even if some of the stories may seem jarring out of context. The stigma, domestic violence, the lack of awareness around mental illness and the potential for evidence-based treatment is often made all too tangibly real in this collection of stories.

The Health Collective is proud to present an excerpt from the book, with the permission of publishers Niyogi Books.

Why We Feel Close to Celebrities (Even If They Don’t Know Us)
Ever felt like a celebrity just gets you? That’s called a parasocial relationship—a one-sided bond with someone you’ve never met.

In this guest post, Bhavya Jain, founder of That Happiness Project explores how these connections can give comfort, inspiration, and even a sense of community. 🌱
But there’s a balance: when these online ties replace real-life relationships or cause distress, it’s a sign to pause and set boundaries.
Parasocial relationships aren’t a weakness—they’re proof of our deep human need for connection. 💛

You may have heard that parasocial relationships are on the rise, but what are they and what do they have to do with *you?
This week a guest post by Bhavya Jain and has some key points to consider.

📚 The Crucial Years by clinical psychologist Dr Sheryl Gonzalez Ziegler is a revelatory read, says Asma G in her book review for The Health Collective. As someone who is helping to raise a 13 year old, Asma says there are specific tips, and 'scripts for talking to children about puberty' that are super helpful. Including because they include the "snarky responses" you'd expect from teens/ pre-teens. 🔥
