Know Your Huber Needle (Winged Infusion Set) for Chemo Port Access
A Huber needle or Non Coring Needle (Winged Infusion Set) is a specially designed hollow needle used with a chemotherapy port (Fast Port). The needle has a long, beveled tip that can go through your skin as well as the silicone septum of your implanted port's reservoir. The needle used to puncture the port chamber is not cutting needle like the ordinary ones. It has a hole from side and the needle has a 90-degree angle to it.The beveled tip of a Huber needle will not remove a core of silicone from your port—this prevents a chunk of silicone or skin from lodging in your catheter line (an all-too-common complication) and makes your port last longer. Don't panic the first time you see that long, curved chemo needle—it is designed to make treatment easier on you.

Venous Access Devices & its Advantages:

Venous access devices provide several advantages over regular IV lines, which are usually inserted in a small vein in the hand or arm.

Venous access devices avoid problems that result over time from administering strong medications through small veins with regular IV lines, namely irritation of the vein and blood clots in the vein.
A central venous device also avoids the inflammation and scarring that can occur in a vein after multiple needle sticks.
A central access device increases comfort and reduces anxiety for people who require frequent venous access.
