‘Embarrassing’ Gas Questions Patients Ask Us Daily 💨❓💨
Q1: ‘Is passing more gas normal?’
✅ Gas is normal — everyone passes gas.
But if it’s daily discomfort + bloating + lifestyle impact, we look deeper: constipation overlap, IBS patterns, or microbiome imbalance.
Q2: ‘Why does my gas smell so bad?’
This is often due to diet and fermentation. High-protein, fried foods, onions/garlic, and constipation can intensify odor because stool stays longer and bacteria ferment more.
Q3: ‘I bloat every evening — why?’
That’s a classic clue for trapped gas, often due to incomplete evacuation/constipation or slow gut movement.
Q4: ‘Is it worms?’
Sometimes, but not most times. If there’s weight loss, anemia, persistent diarrhea, or exposure risk, then yes we test. Otherwise, don’t self-medicate.
Q5: ‘Could gas be cancer?’
Gas alone is rarely cancer.
🚩 But gas with weight loss, blood in stool, anemia, persistent night symptoms, or new symptoms after 45–50 must be evaluated.
