An elderly Lady who has been taken to Operation theater in very big corporate hospitals before and due to high risks , both times operation cancelled due to Heart Lung etc problems.
Finally they approached Dr Suddhasattwa Sen for a very high risk critical surgery of Multiple complex scar hernias ( from multiple previous Operations as different stages of life ) with gross domain loss .
But Unfortunately before she could come back with reports, SHE BECAME AN EMERGENCY AND HAD TO TRAVEL FROM VERY FAR AWAY to get emergency admission and emergency operation to SAVE HER LIFE .
By then , the Colon and Intestine has got stuck , obstructed and strangulation set in ( ie gut losing its blood flow leading to venous congestion progressing towards gangrene ie ischaemic damage .
Luckily , gangrene was prevented and blood flow returned after careful quick clean surgery .
So intestines and colon was not rejected and hence could be preserved WHICH IS BEST FOR PATIENT .
Also a major abdominal wall repair could be done with large mesh ( since area wasn't septic ) .
Patient recovered smooth and no blood transfusions as there was almost no blood loss and sent to WARD ( AND NOT ICU as is ALMOST ALWAYS , OUR PRACTICE OF BLOODLESS AND ICU LESS SURGERIES )
