What do you think about artificial sweeteners? I have tried it for weight loss...didn't work. What's your experience? Does it work? Is it safe?

My take:
1) if you are consuming less than 5 to 6 teaspoon of sugar in a day total (but in divided doses) then you don't even think about it. 6 teaspoon is 30 gram sugar..just about 100 kcal. Walk for 20 extra min and it will be taken care of.
2) if you are eating more than that ...say kheer /pastry /gulabjamun etc then the basic ingredient of the food item may be more dangerous than sugar eg: maida/Khowa etc. You are likely to eat more of it thinking that it has artificial sweetener so safer.
In general, stay away from artificial sweeteners as far as possible. If you still want to use it, then you need to modify the whole diet to shift to healthier food choices in general to see some positive effect on weight/body fat/sugar control.
