🌟 Observational Visit to National Institute of Siddha (NIS), Chennai 🌟

Tagore College of Nursing, Rathinamangalam's VII Semester B.Sc. Nursing students visited NIS, Chennai, on Feb 23-24, 2026. 76 students, accompanied by faculty Mrs. Golda, Mrs. Unisha, and Mrs. Uma Devi, explored Siddha medicine's fundamentals.

Highlights:
- Observed OPD, IPD, and clinical workflow
- Demonstrations on Siddha diagnostics and pharmacy practices
- Visited Raw Drug Repository and Siddha Museum
- Interactive session with NIS faculty

🌟 Skill Development Programme on Pharmacovigilance 🌟

Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. G. Senthilvel, Director, National Institute of Siddha (NIS), the Intermediary Pharmacovigilance Centre (IPvC), NIS, in association with Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centre (PPvC), Govt Siddha Medical College, Palyamkottai, organized a Skill Development Programme on Pharmacovigilance on February 19, 2026, at Agathiyar Arangam, Government Siddha Medical College, Palayamkottai.

Day 2 –

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programme on Oncology and Palliative Care in Siddha was successfully organised at the Siddha Regional Research Institute (SRRI), Puducherry, on 18th & 19th February 2026, the second day began with an engaging Scientific session.

Scientific Sessions

The session emphasized the importance of integrative oncology, palliative care and continued Siddha research to improve cancer patient care and quality of life, while encouraging future research to strengthen Siddha oncology and further enhance the quality of life of cancer patients.

 Dr. J. P. Venthamarai Selvi delivered a lecture on Role of the Siddha System in Palliative Care of Putru Noi.

 Dr. S. Sabarimanikandan explained Boundaries and Limitations for Setting up an Integrative Palliative Care Centre.

 Dr. P. Thenmozhi highlighted Siddha Nutrition in Oncology: A Holistic Therapeutic Framework.

 Prof. Dr. B. R. Senthilkumar shared insights on Siddha in Cancer Palliative Care: Scope and Challenges.

 Dr. S. Shunmugaram guided participants on Oncology Case Reports: From Structure to Core Insights.

Valedictory Session
The CME program ended with felicitation and valedictory proceedings, marking a meaningful conclusion to the CME programme.

 The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. A. Lavanya, Research Officer (S), S-II, SRRI, Puducherry.

 The felicitation address was delivered by Prof. Dr. B. R. Senthilkumar, Coordinator, Siddha Integrated Cancer Care Centre, National Institute of Siddha, Chennai, who shared valuable insights into Siddha integrative oncology.

 This was followed by an inspiring address from Dr. N. Jeya Sankar, Siddha Expert and Medical Acupuncturist, Former Consultant, SRRI Puducherry, highlighting the supportive role of acupuncture and holistic Siddha care in cancer management.

 The session concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. R. Vasudevan, Research Officer (S), SRRI, Puducherry, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers and participants and acknowledging the success of the programme and the valuable knowledge shared during the two-day CME.

 Nearly 45 Siddha physicians, faculty members and Assistant Professors actively participated and benefited from the programme. Certificates were distributed to all participants.

 We express our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. N. J. Muthukumar, Director General, CCRS, Dr. P. Sathiyarajeswaran, Assistant Director (S), S-IV, SRRI, Puducherry, all resource persons, organizers, employees and participants for making this CME programme a meaningful and successful academic event.

🌟 Observational Visit to National Institute of Siddha (NIS), Chennai 🌟

We're thrilled to share that DGNM III Year students from Hindu Mission School of Nursing, Tambaram Chennai, visited the National Institute of Siddha (NIS), Chennai, on February 18, 2026. The visit aimed to provide students with hands-on experience and insights into Siddha medicine.

The students were warmly welcomed by NIS staff and received an orientation on the institute's organizational structure, functioning, and healthcare services. They explored the Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Department (IPD), Siddha Pharmacy, Regional Raw Drug Repository, and Siddha Museum.

The visit offered valuable insights into integrated Siddha healthcare services, patient care practices, traditional drug formulation, and the importance of indigenous systems in public health. Demonstrations and staff interactions enhanced the students' academic understanding and practical exposure to Siddha medicine.

Kudos to Dr. P. Meera Devi Sri, Smt. V. Vijaya, and Mr. Baskar for guiding the students throughout the visit. πŸ™Œ The students expressed gratitude to Director Prof. Dr. G. Senthilvel and the NIS team for their support and arrangements.

The Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) participated in the National Science Tamil Conference – 2026 organized by CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre on 20th and 21st February 2026 at Chennai.

At the conference, CCRS set up a stall highlighting the rich heritage of Siddha medicine. The stall displayed Siddha palm leaf manuscripts, old Siddha books, and raw drugs used in the Siddha system of medicine. The activities of the Literature Research and Documentation Department were also presented, including palm leaf manuscript preparation, collection, cleaning and preservation methods, documentation, digitization, translation, and publication initiatives undertaken by CCRS.

Books published by CCRS were exhibited and made available for sale. Many students and researchers visited the stall with great interest.

The stall attracted a large number of conference participants and helped create awareness about the scientific value and relevance of the Siddha system and our ancient knowledge tradition.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. N. J. Muthukumar, Director General, CCRS, for his constant encouragement and support in promoting and preserving our traditional medical heritage.

The 15th, 16th, and 17th Journal Club meetings were held on December 4, January 29, and February 19, 2026, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, New OPD, NIS. PG Scholars from the Department of Pura Maruthuvam, Varma Maruthuvam, and Siddhar Yoga Maruthuvam presented insightful research critiques.

About 50 Vaidyas, traditional practitioners and healers of Kalvarayan Hills, Salem district have visited the Siddha Medicinal Plants Garden, Mettur Dam on 21.02.2026. They observed and discussed about the uses of various medicinal plant species conserved at the model gardens of SMPG. Dr. P. Radha, Research officer (Botany) Sci II and Officer -in -charge has explained about the important initiatives, research activities and social activities of SMPG and CCRS towards conservation and propagation of medicinal plants to the visitors.

Muthukumar, the Director General, CCRS, (Ministry of Ayush, Government of India), Chennai, visited the Siddha Medicinal Plants Garden, SMPG Office and Botany Laboratory on 21st February 2026, and interacted with Dr. P. Radha, Research officer (Botany) Sci-II and Officer -in -charge and others officers and staff of SMPG. He offered valuable suggestions and guidance for the future development of the unit.
