All generics are not created equal , but safe effective and quality: Generic dispensing is drugs of patients choice among the generic equivalents of brand. The trend in clinical practice is ' Generic efficiency ' mean that rate of utilization of medications for generic versions for the same salt and form. If the rate i.e. the % of drugs that have prescribed, no generic version then its single source prescribing. Alternatively rate of drugs that have generic substitutions then it is multi source drugs. Now the important parameter is 'GDR' mean that "Generic Dispensing Ratio . It is the number of generic fills divided by the total number of prescriptions. Its a standard performance metric on which pharmacy benefit designs and pharmacists are routinely evaluated. Higher GDRs are considered important because they consistently produce lower prescription drug costs. All drugs can be generics in practice unless otherwise 'DAW' usually narrow therapeutic index drugs.
