S.S.College, Bhopal in collaboration with Swasti Rehabiltation Centre and AADHAR Centre organized a webinar to observe International Day of People with Disability.
It is rightly said "Adversity provides the opportunity for the best part of us to shine" and the guest speakers were real examples who have lived to it.

Ms. Ambika Dhasmana, a dancer & Autism Movement Therapy Provider and mother of two kids with ASD shared about her journey. She shared how her hardwork, passion for dance and support from family & friends not only helped her deal with challenges but also motivated her to work for children with special needs.

Every person is born with some or the other ability but abilities without opportunity is of no value. Professional support in identifying and guiding in right direction is equally important. AADHAR centre is working with great dedication from past 16 years in empowering children with disability and their families. Dr.Jagmeet Kaur Chawla, Developmental Paeditrician and Director shared experiences, challenges in particular the social barriers and our collective responsibility.

The webinar was conducted by Ms.Roli Mishra, Rehabilitation Psychologist and concluded with a hope of creating a world that has respect for diverse ability.

"A journey from Disability to This Ability".

As we are celebrating International Day for Persons with Disability(3rd December), today we share the inspiring example of

MICHAEL PHELPS

who proved that people are not disabled by the disabilities they have but they are able by their abilities. If one can channelize in right direction, they can create a new world.

The champion swimmer Michael Phelps was continually criticized by teachers for his inability to sit still, and was formally diagnosed with ADHD when he was in fifth grade. After being on Ritalin for over two years, Phelps chose to stop using the drug and instead used swimming to help him find focus. His choice clearly paid off, as he ended his Olympic career as the most highly decorated Olympian of all time, boasting 22 medals (18 of them being gold).

Out of the pool, he’s dedicated to promoting water safety and healthy living to youth through swimming programs.
The Michael Phelps Foundation has introduced swimming to more than 15,000 children through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Special Olympics.

For Phelps, the pool has been many things. It’s been a refuge, an outlet and a place where his strength and passion have propelled him to greatness. Now, through his foundation, Phelps hopes the pool can be “that place” for thousands of kids with ADHD and learning differences.

"A journey from *Disability* to *This Ability*"

As we are celebrating International Day for Persons with Disability(3rd December), today we share the inspiring example of Arunima Sinha, another personality who proves
"The challenges aren't there to stop you, they are there to help you grow."

Arunima Sinha

27-year-old Arunima Sinha lost her left leg in an unfortunate incident on April 11, 2011.

Despite the fact that she lost a leg, she did not gave up the spirit of her life and defied all conceivable odds.

Infact, Arunima decided to convert her weakness into her biggest strength and by her true determination, on May 21, 2013, she achieved the rare feat to become the first Indian amputee to conquer the Mount Everest, with the help of a prosthetic leg.

Beside setting an example to the world, Arunima also made India, a proud nation when she hoisted the Indian tricolour flag at the peak of the Mount Everest.

"A journey from *Disability* to discovering *This Ability*"

As we are celebrating International Day for Person with Disability(3rd December), we are sharing stories of real heroes who became role model and inspiration for everyone. In spite of the limitations, they made remarkable contributions and made us believe
"The challenges aren't there to stop you, they are there to help you grow."

*Stephen Hawking*

A theoretical physicist, astrophysicist, cosmologist, and eminent scientist, Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) at the age 21: he was given 2 more years to live. He lived until he was 76-years-old.

He had been paralysed from head to toe for over thirty years and used a voice synthesiser to communicate, and a wheelchair that he operated through slight movements of the head and eyes.

None of this prevented him from developing his activity as an exemplary researcher and professor, and intense personal life that allowed him to make his illness known to the world.

Becoming one of the most recognisable celebrities of our time, his story was taken to the cinema in the film "The Theory of Everything".
