Can diet and exercise help lose weight from a specific area?
This question has haunted most of us. People often ask this questions and unfortunately I have say that the answer is No! Targeted fat loss or spot reduction, is not possible and there's no solid scientific evidence to suggest that you can burn fat on specific areas of your body.
This simply implies that, doing 500 sit-ups a day will not burn the fat around your tummy only, and no amount of triceps dips is going to burn off those bingo wings. Building strong abdominal (abs) muscles will not give you a 6-pack if those muscles are hiding behind body fat. The human body just doesn’t work like that.

Then How do we get a perfect shape?
Here is a good news!

Lose weight- Lose Fat- Through regular exercise and good nutrition diet plan , you can burn fat from your entire body, and get fitter, healthier and leaner in the process.

Build Muscle Mass- Then you can target muscle growth and improve your muscle definition with weights and body weight exercises and proper protein rich diet, focusing on specific areas, whether that’s the chest, back, arms, legs or abs.

There are no short cuts to big achievements!😊
Stay Fit, Stay Healthy!

How to make our food unhealthy? πŸ˜†πŸ˜ I know you are wondering why would someone want to do that. Well, you'd be surprised! Most of the times we cook fresh nutritious food and then in order to make it tastier, we end up making it unhealthy! 😎
πŸ‘‰Here are some ways that make our food unhealthy:
1. Preparation methods- By processing food, deep frying, adding to cheese and cream or using too much oil or ghee.
2. Incompatible combinations- Eating two food together that are incompatible does more harm than benefit and makes it unhealthy for our body. eg milk-banana, eggs-milk and honey-ghee etc.
3. Removing essential part of food- Drinking fruit juice instead of whole fruit or adding extra sugar spikes up the sugar levels in the body.
4. Adding too much sugar or salt to food- This leads to water retention in the body and may also hinder the digestion process.
5. Eating too much at one time - Eating more than what is required leads to indigestion and acidity. Always eat 20% less than your hunger.
6. Eating food at odd times - Skipping breakfast, eating late night can lead to indigestion and upset your bowel movements.
7. Eating stale or over-kept food- Storing food for long duration depletes its nutritive value and may sometimes invite pathogens which harms your body.
One of my favorite slokas in Sanskrit says β€œFood is medicine when consumed properly”. If we eat foods uniquely suited to our physiology, and follow a sattvic (life supporting) routine that enhances digestion, our bodies will reap the benefits and we will find that our days will be happier, healthier and filled with real vitality at any age.
So are you making your food unhealthy? Do let me know in comments below.

What keeps you awake at night? If I were to ask 100 people, 20 of them would say . Hair Fall is an unspoken pain that plagues the best of us, and doesn't spare man, woman or child!
As a physician, one of the most frequently asked questions by my clients is "How can I reduce hair fall?" So here are few food items that can help you solve your problem.

1. Eggs and Dairy Products: Milk, yogurt and eggs are an absolutely awesome source of proteins, Vitamin B12, iron, zinc and Omega 6 fatty acids. They also contain biotin, which is often prescribed by doctors to fight hair loss. Why take supplements when you can consume from the source?

2. Spinach and green leafy vegetables: Spinach, amaranath and other green leafy vegetables are a great source of iron, vitamin A and C and protein. Iron deficiency often causes hair fall and green leafy vegetables are the perfect source.

3. Walnuts: One of my favourite nuts, is the only known nut that contains biotin, B vitamins (B1, B6 and B9), Vitamin E, protein and magnesium. Regular consumption helps to strengthen hair cuticles and nourish the scalp.

4. Flaxseeds: Flaxseed is a that contains Omega-3 fatty acids and adds elasticity and strength to your hair and thus preventing breakage.

5. Pulses and Sprouts: These are loaded with protein, iron, zinc, and biotin which strengthens the hair from the root.

I would like to add that dietary changes take time and you need to be patient. Also, if your hair fall is persistent, you need to consult a doctor to rule out hormonal or systemic factors.

🌧Rains are here. So, while we all love the smell of fresh on grass, we need to modify our diet to stay away from nasty colds, coughs and bouts of illnesses.
πŸ‘‰So what should we eat during ?
🌧 For those of us who love pakoras, I have bad news. Metabolism slows down in monsoons, so avoid fried food to ensure a healthy gut. Steamed and grilled food works best!
🌧 Decrease your salt intake so that your body doesn't retain excess water.
🌧 Add foods rich in antioxidants such as:
1. Turmeric - A natural antiseptic and antibiotic, turmeric can safeguard you from monsoon related illnesses.
2. Ginger - Freshly grated ginger into tea, hot drinks and cooked food can absolutely fire up your metabolism
3. Garlic - Add it to soups, rasam or dals, garlic can help you boost your immunity and keep your respiratory tract clear.
4. Almonds - The perfect snack to munch during monsoons, almonds bring in protein and fiber in addition to anti-oxidants
5. Black Pepper - Adding pepper to your diet in monsoon can prevent fever, cough, cold and muscular pain. I add it to my homemade and it helps keep minor illnesses away.

Do you constantly feel hungry? Do you reach out for snacks soon after finishing a meal? A dip in blood sugar can cause you to feel hungry soon after a meal. This can happen if you aren't eating enough, aren't eating the right foods or aren't eating the right way.
Here are a few tips that will help you stay full longer:
πŸ‘‰ Add salads to your diet. Adding fibre to your diet aids digestion as well as keeps you full longer.
πŸ‘‰ Drink enough water. Did you know that 60% of the time people eat food, when actually all they needed was a glass of water? 😎 Drink a glass of before you start your meal.
πŸ‘‰ Don't Netflix and eat. When we sit in front of the TV or the laptop, we can easily get distracted into eating more than required. Our signals of satiety are blocked and we overeat or eat unnecessarily. Switch off all electronic devices when you are eating.
πŸ‘‰ Eat slowly. If you gobble your meal in ten minutes, your stomach isn't registering that it had enough food. Time yourself and make sure you eat for 20 minutes. Chew your food and enjoy each bite.
πŸ‘‰ Eat the right foods. Adding a few of these incredibly filling foods to your diet can be helpful. Add a serving of eggs, boiled potato, oats, yogurt, humus or spinach if you are a vegetarian and add a side of grilled meat or fish if you prefer non-vegetarian.

If deserts are bae 😍 for you, then I absolutely understand your predicament. While sugar does not have any direct negative health effects, it leads to increased blood sugar which can trigger a vicious circle of obesity, diabetes and chronic diseases.
Here are a few replacements for sugar that you can incorporate in your diet and enjoy your deserts.
1. Raw Honey - Even though is high in calories, it is easily digested, is a good source of antioxidants and has antibacterial and antifungal properties. However in order to reap the benefits of honey, make sure you go for unadulterated, unpasteurized honey. I recently got organic honey by and I definitely like the taste!
2. Gur or Jaggery - Gur is obtained from raw, concentrated sugarcane juice and loaded with antioxidants and minerals like zinc and selenium. An excellent natural sweetener, it also aids digestion.
3. Dates - One of the best alternatives to sugar, dates are an excellent source of antioxidants and also aid metabolism.
4. Maple Syrup - Though not as healthy as other alternatives, maple syrup is still healthier than sugar. It is also a good source of calcium, potassium, iron, zinc and manganese.
5. Coconut Palm Sugar - Made from the sap of the coconut palm, this caramel colored sugar has a lower Glycemic Index as well as nutrients such as zinc, potassium and calcium.

My children absolutely love ! As a physician, every time I saw them piling mayonnaise on their plate, I cringed internally. Did you know that 1 tablespoon of contains 90 calories and 10 grams of fat? πŸ˜ŸπŸ˜”
Over the years, I have embarked on journey to substitute mayonnaise in our diet in such a way that is :) Here are a few that have worked for us:

1. Avocado - dense and creamy with its own unique taste, avocado and toast are a combination.
2. Hummus - when I have a little more time, I prepare this chickpea-based dip that adds texture as well as flavor to your food
3. Pesto - Homemade pesto with fresh basil and spinach is an amazing protein rich substitute to mayo.
4. Hung curd - Tangy like mayo, with a tinge of mustard, pepper and salt, this can fool even mayoaddicts into ditching it.
