SOCIAL SUPPORT FOR DIALYSIS PATIENTS IN INDIA
Social support
Many patients starting on dialysis lose their employment. They need to come to health care facility weekly twice or thrice and most are not able to cope up with stress of illness. They lose their motivation to work.
Role of employer
The work pattern of the dialysis patient and the timing needs to be adjusted.
Philanthropists
New employment needs to be created for dialysis patients so they can themselves make their livelihood
Role of Government
Even if the patient works in private firm, rules should be made such that after initiation of dialysis, he should be supported by the same firm along with government assistance.
Role of patients
The patients should overcome the stress of the illness and adapt with a job suitable for them. This is the only way for self motivation.

"Previously, experts believed that eating high amounts of fruit and vegetables might help counteract the effect of high salt on blood pressure.

However while these foods do tend to lower blood pressure, the new research suggests they do not counteract the adverse influence of salt intake."

There is increasing evidence that the types of the fluids we drink can have a long-term impact on health, influencing the development of overweight, obesity or metabolic diseases.

Studies have suggested that excessive consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and it has also been shown that in adults, high consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages is associated with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome.

A sensible advice would be to recommend that the bulk of daily fluid intake should come from plain water

Our brain is made of 75% water. It seems therefore logical that dehydration may have an impact on cognitive functions and mood.

Several studies, performed in healthy persons, looked at the effects of induced dehydration on cognitive performance and motor function: fatigue, mood, choice reaction time, short- and long-term memory, attention, arithmetics…

It appears that a 2% dehydration is sufficient to impair functions and performances. Some studies have suggested that adverse effects may even be present at 1% dehydration.

Young children and adolescents, in particular, may be at risk of impaired cognitive function (concentration, alertness and short-term memory) due to insufficient hydration
