Her arm stayed locked for 17 years, until expert care changed her life.

Ms. Zainab Mohammed Jassim, from Iraq, lived with her left arm fixed at a 90-degree angle because of two large bone tumours. The condition restricted her daily activities, affected emotional wellbeing and left her unable to use her arm normally.

Under the care of Dr. Srimanth B. S., Lead Consultant – Orthopaedic Oncology Surgery at Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road, detailed tests confirmed a massive osteochondroma, a childhood bone growth that had expanded over many years. Surgery was planned to remove the tumour and restore arm function.

A multi-specialty surgical team removed the tumour completely, released trapped nerves and blood vessels, and reconstructed the shoulder and elbow to regain function and appearance.

She can now use her arm again and is returning home with improved mobility and confidence.

Timely diagnosis and specialised surgery can prevent complications from long-standing tumours and restore quality of life.
