DAY 4 HYPOTHYROID
After PCOS, Hypothyroid is second most frequently seen condition among females in my last 10 yrs. practice. According to statistics, thyroid disorders are on the rise in India. Approximately 1 in 10 Indian adults suffer from hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones to meet the needs of the body. This condition is twice as prevalent in women as in men and is common among women of child-bearing age. (Source)
Some of the most common symptoms seen are fatigue, dry skin, weight gain, muscle pain, cramps, concentration difficulties, hair thinning, excess fluid in tissues and cold sensitivity.
Hypothyroidism is condition then the thyroid gland has abnormally low activity and there is insufficient thyroid hormone production. This results in retardation of growth and mental development. Moreover, if the thyroid gland is not functioning properly, autoimmune disorder may occur and at some patients the thyroid may develop several types of nodules and cancer.
Some of the main culprits of thyroid disorders are:
• Chronic stress
• Toxin overload
• Iodine deficiency
What Causes Thyroid Disease?
• One cause of thyroid disease is an autoimmune disorder. Antibodies present in the body itself attack the thyroid glands resulting in a condition named autoimmune thyroiditis which eventually destroys the thyroid gland.
• Another reason is physical and mental stress. Physical stress can be defined as stress on the physical body where it is not able to accommodate a lifestyle such as fast food, disturbed sleep patterns, and environmental risk factors.
• Mental stress can arise from work pressure, emotional weakness, and grief or family disputes. All of these factors result in the secretion of cortisol, the hormone which acts as a protective mechanism to stress.
Treatment:
Treatment for hypothyroidism focuses on supplementing the thyroid hormone. But this is just to replace the decreased secretion of thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland.
Homeopathy has a suitable effect on acting at the root cause of the problem and stimulating the thyroid gland to naturally normalize its hormone production.
In my practice i have seen cases of hypothyroid treated with homoeopathic remedies selected on the basis of detailed case taking and evaluation stimulates your thyroid gland to start producing adequate hormones. This done along with the thyroid hormone supplements with gradually tapering doses under a physician’s guidance which is then completely stopped.
Be Healthy, Be happy.
