To ensure good spinal health, you should be active and responsibly maintain a good body posture.

1/3rd of your life is spent sleeping. Your sleeping posture has a huge impact on your health, emotional and mental balance.

Tips for better sleep posture:
- Sleep on a firm mattress
- Avoid using an oversized/ undersized pillow. Your pillow should align your head with the rest of your body.
- Side and back are the ideal positions for sleeping as it's easier to maintain a neutral spine.
- Don’t twist or bend at the waist, instead move your entire body as one unit.
- Maintain a sleeping pattern: set sleep schedule, avoid caffeine 5 hours before sleeping, create a relaxing environment, do a few yoga stretches)

Arthritis- A disease that affects joints causing pain and stiffness that can worsen with age. It is most common in feet, knees, hips, lower back and hands.

Symptoms- Pain, redness, stiffness, swelling, tenderness and difficulty in moving joints.

Treatment- Medication, physical therapy, splints or joint assistive aids, surgery.

Tips for self-care:
- Stay physically active (light exercise, walking, swimming, cycling)
- Maintain a healthy weight with a balanced diet
- Improve sleep quality
- Regular check-ups with the doctor
- Prevent joints from unnecessary stress, set a balance between movement and rest

Good body mechanics is based on proper body posture. Being aware of your posture during your daily activities is important in order to correct it.

Here are few tips to minimise the risk of injury:
- Stand with your feet flat and shoulders wide apart
- Pull in your abdomen
- Balance weight evenly on both feet
- Maintain a straight back posture
- Keep your chin parallel with the floor

Few exercises to correct your posture:
- Planks
- Chest stretches
- Side lying leg raises
- Gently lengthening your neck upwards as you tuck in your chin
- Neck stretches and neck rotations

- Your feet should be in alignment with your shoulders
- Squat down, bending at the hips and knees

Sit with your back straight and shoulders relaxed. Knees at a right angle and even with your hips. Thighs horizontal and feet flat on the floor.

Adjust your chair height to the workstation such that your elbows and arms rest on the table.

You can use a Lumbar roll or a Lumbar Support cushion to maintain the natural curve of your spine, add extra comfort and maintain your torso in an upright position.
