Twenty years ago, I packed up my bags and moved from Toronto to Rome, thanks to my mother who single handedly went to bat for me, to who went above and beyond, and was kind and helped me through the many questions about the admissions and the visa process, and guided me through the work/study scholarships that I could apply to after a semester there. My time in Rome was life changing and set me on the path I am today. Rome was where I got in touch with my art again. It was the city that really taught me to appreciate beauty, in its many forms - a trait that single handedly comes into focus as both a writer and an artist. It wasn’t all roses but it every single challenge that came up - it was that beautiful city and the wonderful people I met there, most of whom continue to be lifelong friends - who held me up.
It was where I properly learned my hustle of balancing multiple roles and learned what I was capable of. And today - seeing these photos of our by - who has been a great friend these last few years - makes it all so worth it. Here’s to always chasing your dreams and never giving up - regardless of the fact that the 44 will never show up on time:) Most of all, Grazie Mille - Roma sweet home always holds such a special place in my heart. And both as an and member - I couldn’t be happier to see the mascot featured next to our desk calendar.
