Been a bit since my last post, but my little bambino has been keeping me busy!

Recently, I ran into a new mom of a preemie (12 weeks now) who mentioned her little one struggled with tummy time. After watching her do a couple of minutes of tummy time without any complaints, I complimented her mom on how well she did. Her mom then said that she could only do 2-3 minutes at a time before starting to cry.

This is something I hear many times from parents of newborns. It got me thinking about this page and I wanted to take a moment to remind new parents that a few minutes of tummy time is perfectly okay for your newborn! Don’t expect them to go several minutes at a time and not cry. Tummy time for newborns is hard work! Motivate them to build on those few minutes by getting down on the floor and entertain them, use different positions, like on your chest semi-reclined or with a towel or boppy propped under their chest. Let them go a minute, two, three if they seem to be enjoying it, then roll them over and give a break BEFORE they start to cry. Try not to pick them up every time tummy time is over or if they start to fuss. Instead, roll them to their back and play/comfort them in that position.

If you can commit to doing tummy time a few times a day with your newborn, right from the very start, they will get better with time. So just be patient, even if some days they can only go for one minute! Keep it a positive experience for the both of you 😁

Ciao tutti! It's been a bit, but I've been enjoying some mommy time with my newborn son 😊 Just wanted to post for the mommies! After you get the postpartum all clear from your doctor, don't forget about healing and strengthening your body! You should get checked for diastisis recti and pelvic floor weakness. There are physical/physiotherapists who specialize in this area, or you can ask your OBGYN. There are some very simple exercises you can do to help heal your abs and strengthen your pelvic floor muscles to prevent future problems with subsequent pregnancies, pain, and overall female health! Keep doing those kegels postpartum and don't forget to take care of your bodies after the physical strain from pregnancy and birth!! 😁
