19/10/2025
This week is the last of the current courses.
The dates for next term are as follows:
Tuesdays: Nov 4, 11, 18, 25
Thursdays: Nov 6, 13, 20, 27
Both are 4 weeks long (£36) because, as soon as we go into December, other Christmas-related activities tend to take over.
VENUE NEWS
Oakfield: Those of you who come to classes at Oakfield know that, due to Sport Active taking over the premises, we will only be able to use the studio until the end of the year. Having been teaching there for more than 15 years, this is bad news for everyone.
I have been looking for alternative premises that offer a good-sized space with parking on-site or nearby.
This is to bring you up-to-date on my search so far.
I have been told that the following are unavailable:
Haute Vallee: Grainville: d'Auvergne: Langford: Maufant Youth Centre: Hotel de France: St Martin's School: Highlands: Hautlieu: Kenneth Faucon Memorial Hall
Le Rocquier School (Wednesdays only available)
No reply:
Beaulieu
St Saviour's Parish Hall
Possible:
St Luke's Church Hall
I haven't followed this up yet. I think, if free, the hall is big enough. The only drawback is that there is no on-site parking.
YES
Opera House- Upstairs Bar
I thought this might be a possibility but, when I went on Thursday, the room layout would make it impossible to use. There are 3 separate areas which, if added together, would give us enough space. But only one is visible at a time and, even I can't see around corners!
Just emailed:
Trinity Youth Centre:
Although this is further out than I would have liked, other classes are already held there so the hall should be adequate. There is on-site parking.
Other venues can be hired, but during the daytime only.
I'm sure I may have missed other places that I have contacted but, if you have any other suggestions, please let me know.
St Mary's Community Centre
On the 9th, because the windows were jammed open, the hall was freezing cold and too draughty to be usable.
Luckily, less people than usual came, so we had to do the class in the foyer!
This week was OK because of our large portable heaters warming things up, but I'm not sure how they'll cope once the outside temperature drops.
We now have an alternative to the Sports Hall if it's very cold.
We have been given the go-ahead to use the upstairs room (if there are no committee meetings taking place..)
ATTENDANCE
This is a tricky subject to mention.
I know for various reasons (holidays, illness, working late, inclement weather etc) most of you haven't come to the class every week.
I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that classes are meant to be run on a course basis. Of course, I still want you all to come when you can, but please bear this in mind.
January is the busiest term due to all of those New Year's resolutions, so I want to make sure I'm not turning too many away.

You can only pay for a full course on this link.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can sort things out for 2026!
A varied class suitable for those just beginning and those more experienced, concentrating on core conditioning - to strengthen and tone all major muscle groups.
