Happy Independence Day & Treaty Day YenKunKun Pikibo!!!

On March 1st throughout Cockpit Country, Jamaica, we celebrate the historic 1738/9 Peace Treaty.

The treaty was led by Papa Kojo (Captain and Chief Cudjoe), one of the great Maroon warriors, and it grant us Maroons land, sovereignty, and autonomy to perpetuity — making Accompong one of the oldest continuously self-governing Black communities in the Western Hemisphere.

True story: I once asked Shango for a sign, and seconds later, a lightning bolt hit the ground and lit the road on fire for 5 seconds. My daughter, 4 years old at the time, witnessed it—and now at 11, she still remembers that sacred moment.
