Dental implant (also known as anendosseous implant or fixture) is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesissuch as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration where materials, such as titanium, form an intimate bond to bone.

The implant fixture is first placed, so that it is likely to osseointegrate, then a dental prosthetic is added. A variable amount of healing time is required for osseointegration before either the dental prosthetic (a tooth, bridge or denture) is attached to the implant or an abutment is placed which will hold a dental prosthetic.

Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is the latest technology used to take dental x-rays.

This technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) that captures and stores the digital image on a computer.

This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged helping the oral surgeon detect PROBLEMS easier.

Digital x-rays reduce radiation 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays.

Dental x-rays are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information not visible during a regular dental exam.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons use this information to safely and accurately detect hidden dental and bony abnormalities and complete an accurate treatment plan.

Without x-rays, PROBLEM areas may go undetected.

Veneer

In dentistry, a veneer is a thin layer of material placed over a tooth, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth or to protect a damage to a tooth's surface. There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer: composite and dental porcelain. A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, typically using a resin cement such as Panavia.
In contrast, a porcelain veneer may only be indirectly fabricated.
