Hope you all have been able to enjoy time with loved ones this holiday season! My books are officially closed for the year, so I thought this would be a good time to reflect.

This was my first year in a 100% private practice after reopening in May… and in a new country!!😰

Stepping away from the gray areas of contracting and into full independence wasn’t easy, but it gave me the space to grow towards my goals. This year reminded me that building something sustainable takes time and patience.

I’m SO thankful for the clients who trust me and value the work I do. You made this year what it was!

I’m proud of what I started here and looking forward to what's ahead.

After the recent earthquake and strong aftershocks, I know a lot of people here in Misawa (especially those new to Japan) are feeling literally shook! I’ve lived through some intense natural disasters in the States. One thing I’ve learned living with crippling anxiety is that fear quiets down when you have information and a plan.

Part of my training as a massage therapist includes understanding how the body holds anxiety, adrenaline, and fear. So if your shoulders feel locked up, your chest feels tight, or your back is aching today, that’s not “in your head.” Your body is processing what happened and is protecting you from what may come, hence the feelings of anxiety.

If you’re feeling tense or on edge right now, that’s a completely normal response. Your nervous system stays “alert” after a sudden event like that, and you start developing tense holding patterns. The lack of sleep many of us have definitely exacerbates all this!

A few things that can help:
• Learn what’s normal for Japan (aftershocks happen for days)
• Do one small preparedness task at a time so you don't feel overwhelmed and check your emergency supplies so you know you’re prepared. It gives your brain a sense of control
• Talk to someone who’s experienced a few quakes before
• Give yourself a minute to breathe deeply (your nervous system needs that reset)
• Limit doomscrolling for a bit and focus on your presence
• Move your body. Even stretching helps.

You’ll feel more grounded as your body realizes you’re safe again. Stress and tension are very real aftershocks too. Remember, you are not alone. We're all in this together.

Things have been tough lately. The government shutdown has affected a lot of families, and I’ve had several clients who’ve had to cancel their sessions because of it. I completely understand; in times like these, massage truly is a luxury and not a priority.

I'm offering one free 60-minute massage to someone in our community who could really use the relief right now but can’t afford it.

I’ve been a little quieter lately because things have been wonderfully busy. Last month was actually my busiest yet, and I am so grateful for you all!💆‍♀️💕

🛬 I’m back from the Philippines and ready to start taking appointments again!

On this Labor Day, I’m reminded not only of the progress workers have made in the U.S., but also of the vast inequalities I saw while traveling to the PI.

What struck me during my visit is that even with all the new development, there was still a lack of lasting infrastructure and deep systemic issues. It made me think about the importance of supporting work that builds real, long-term impact.. not just quick fixes.

That’s why from now until October 31, a portion of every session will be set aside to support organizations dedicated to creating lasting change for the future of the Philippines. This isn’t about one-time cleanups or temporary relief, but about focusing on the systemic issue (infrastructure, leadership, and civic development).

Wow-wow-wee-wow!! Look at little ol' Lani on this day 13 years ago!🥹
This is a picture of me after graduating from massage school. It's wild to look back and see how far I've come! I'm feeling super grateful today.

Back in the States, I was constantly booked months out (my snowbirds even booked a year out!). Moving to Misawa has been a humbling reset, having to start all over again. There are a LOT of massage options here, so when people choose me, work around my schedule, and spread the word, it means everything!

I pour a lot of thought and care into the way I work, and it means so much knowing that you value that.
