The theme for World Aids Day 2025 is "Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response."
Below are 5 common myths about HIV/AIDS:

1. Myth: HIV is a death sentence.
Truth: With modern Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), people with HIV can live long, healthy lives, often with a near-normal life expectancy.

2. Myth: HIV is spread through casual contact.
Truth: You cannot get it from hugging, kissing, sharing toilets, drinking glasses, or touching doorknobs.

3. Myth: HIV and AIDS are the same thing.
Truth: HIV is the virus; AIDS is the late stage of infection. AIDS is only diagnosed when the immune system is severely damaged.

4. Myth: You can tell if someone has HIV by looking at them.
Truth: In the early stages, symptoms are often flu-like and quickly disappear.

5. Myth: You can get HIV from mosquitoes or insects.
Truth: The virus does not survive or reproduce inside a mosquito, and mosquitoes do not inject the blood of a previous person.
