NAAM Team Spotlight 🎨 | Visual Artist:

Meet , our resident visual artist — a storyteller who turns discarded materials into powerful reflections of our connection with the environment.

His piece, 'Useless: Echoes Beneath the Surface' crafted from discarded plastic, polythene and a humble sisal rag, invites us to rethink our relationship with Nam Lolwe (Lake Victoria) — once a cradle of abundance, now echoing the consequences of our neglect.

Through transforming what pollutes into what provokes thought, this reminds us that creativity can heal, restore and call us back to responsibility.

‎“This is not just art. It is a question. A memory. A warning" he says.

As we journey toward NAAM Festival 2025 and celebrate 10 years of impact, we honor artists like Jeff who remind us that the lake’s story is our own.

In 2023, voices rose by the lakeside- fishermen, artists, youth, activists all gathered to speak for the lake that sustains us. That was the Kanda La Ziwa 2023, the people’s meeting of Lake Victoria.

This is a movement of ideas and a living dialogue where art and dialogue meets advocacy to reimagine Lake Victoria. From tackling pollution and fair fishing to questioning ownership and identity, it’s a bold call to rethink our relationship with the waters that feed over 40 million lives.

This November, the conversation continues as it gets deeper, wider and more urgent carrying forward a decade of creative advocacy for Lake Victoria.

Now in its 6th Edition, NAAM Festival returns with a renewed spirit of socio-cultural and environmental change gathering artists, storytellers, activists and changemakers championing justice for the lake and her people.

This year is more than a celebration, it’s a milestone🎉. Our organization marks 10 years of impact - a decade of creative advocacy, cultural revival and waves of transformation that began right here by the shores of Lake Victoria.

It all began here by the shores of Lake Victoria at the then Kisumu Beach Resort setting the rhythm in motion. From that moment, a movement grew bringing together art, culture and sustainability shaping what NAAM stands for today.

Ten years later, the journey comes full circle. Our home will once again open its shores to the 6th edition of the NAAM Festival and our 10- year impact anniversary. What began as ripples has grown into waves of creativity and community across the Lake Region and beyond.

Introducing Nyatiti Mora - A community project by NAAM Festival🎉.

We are proud to unveil Nyatiti Mora, a community initiative that unites heritage, environment and creativity. Last weekend at Ulawe Apate Primary School in partnership with Ulawe Apate Cultural CBO and other partners, we held a powerful cultural show filled with music, dance and storytelling.

This project incorporates nyatiti-making workshops and mentorship to keep alive the knowledge of making and playing the instrument while empowering young people with skills and cultural pride.

This November during our 10-years anniversary festival, we will host a special exhibition of newly crafted nyatitis born out of this community. Join us in this journey of preserving culture and conserving the environment.
