A decade ago, five EAC partner states region – Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda – were among 53 countries that made a commitment in what is popularly referred to as the Bamako Call to Action to ensure research would be used to transform health conditions in the world’s poorer nations.

A historic day for vaccine equity in Africa, with the ground breaking ceremony for BioNTech's vaccine manufacturing facility based on BioNTainer modular system in Rwanda. It's the first of the three identical sites planned by BioNtech in Senegal and SouthAfrica.

BioNTech will work closely with local authorities to ensure compliance to relevant regulatory procedures of the national regulatory agencies in each partner country, and also coordinate where appropriate with relevant continental and international agencies, including WHO, Africa CDC, the African Medicines Agency (AMA), and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD).
