WORLD WATER DAY 2026 – WHERE WATER FLOWS, EQUALITY GROWS
Yesterday, our fraternity joined stakeholders, leaders, and the wider community at Mwerongundu Primary School in Igembe North Constituency, Meru County, to commemorate World Water Day.
Guided by this year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” and the powerful slogan, “Where water flows, equality grows,” we reflected on the critical role water plays not only in health, but in dignity, opportunity, and social equity.
As a healthcare facility, we recognize that water is not just a resource, it is life. At Maua Methodist Hospital, water is essential in our daily service delivery, particularly in the renal unit where safe, clean water is vital for life-saving dialysis. Its importance extends across all aspects of care, hygiene, and patient safety.
We also acknowledge the disproportionate burden borne by women and girls, who are often tasked with sourcing water, limiting their time for education, economic activities, and personal growth. Access to reliable and safe water is, therefore, a step toward gender equality and community empowerment.
At Maua Methodist Hospital, we continue to advocate for accessible and sustainable water solutions that ease this burden and uplift our communities, an effort we actively support through the sinking of boreholes in partnership with friends and like-minded organizations to expand access to safe water.
In partnership with Shared Value Foundation, we marked the day by conducting a medical camp, offering health screenings and promoting healthy lifestyles among community members. This initiative reinforced our commitment to holistic well-being, because clean water and good health go hand in hand.
Let us all champion the cause:
When we invest in water, we invest in health, equality, and a better future for all.
