Avian DNA based s*xing is the ultimate in testing for birds. Distinguishing male from female birds is notoriously difficult. Unlike mammals, the physical characteristics which distinguish male and female birds are very subtle or altogether absent. Bird DNA s*xing can help breeders establish the gender of the birds with 100% accuracy. Results ready in 5 working days from receipt of samples
Collecting samples and analysis
Bird s*xing relies on the method of DNA analysis and replication known as Polymerase chain reaction. This allows distinction of gender in birds by testing their DNA, providing an accuracy of 99.9%. PCR allows amplification of a region on the Z and W chromosome that differs in size, clearly marking whether the sample testing is male or female.
Why discover the gender of your birds?

Here are some of the reasons for avian DNA testing.

Medical – some diseases are gender specific and thus affect only males or females. Knowing the gender of a sick bird in advance can help the veterinary surgeon diagnose the condition more quickly and even help with treatment. In such cases, time is of essence and not knowing the s*x of the bird could waste valuable time.
Behavioural aspects and bonding – as bird develop from nestlings, their temperament begins changing. Certain bird species of a certain gender might develop problematic behaviours which need to be addressed. Building a good relationship with our avian friends and understanding their behaviours begins from something as basic as knowing their gender. Knowing the gender of our pets (whether birds or otherwise) is crucial to developing a health, loving relationship with them. We need to be able to define the s*x of our avian friends in order to maximise the relationship with them.
Mating – if you plan breeding birds you need to make sure to pair birds of opposite s*x. Countless people have bought pairs of birds and wondered why these failed to mate and produce offspring.

Cytauxzoonosis is a tick-borne parasitic disease caused by Cytauxzoon felis, a protozoal organism. C. felis infects the blood cells of cats
Transmission:
The infection is spread to other cats through the bite of a tick – usually the Lone Star tick. Although other species of ticks may bite cats, the only other species that has been shown to transmit the infection experimentally is the American dog tick. Cats cannot catch the infection directly from an infected cat.

Symptoms
1. incubation period 10 days
2. lack of energy
3. lack of appetite.
3 difficulty breathing
4. and pale gums
On physical examination, many infected cats will be dehydrated; anemic (low red blood cell count) or jaundiced (yellow gums or yellow whites of the eyes); may have a fever; increased heart rate and/or respiratory rate; and the lymph nodes, spleen, and liver may be enlarged. Cats may appear to be in pain and not want to be touched.
The disease progresses rapidly if left untreated with death possible in 2-3 days after the spike in fever. In the later stages of infection, the cat may become hypothermic (low body temperature), may develop seizures, or may lapse into a coma.
Diagosis;
1. Blood tests can be done through blood counts;A complete blood count will show decreased numbers of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets
2. Blood smearmay reveal C. felis organisms within red blood cells or certain white blood cells. However, in early stages of the disease, there may be no organisms present in the blood.
Treatment:
Use of ticks preventives

Furrowing is a term used in pig production which means is to give birth. How do we managed our sows s
During furrowing;
1. Mortality is always high at this period ranging from 20-30%
2. Transferring them to farrowing pens at one week prior to exlected farrowing
3. Date is noted by date of service
4. Before transferring the animal it should be cleaned and disinfected
5. Chopped strasmw to the tune of "4" is added bu unchopped straw is not advisable as piglets get entangled
6. Daily exercise is required
7. Time of furrowing is noted by nervousness, tendency to form nest and colostrum secretions
8. During furrowing sows should not be disturbed as they become nervous. But attendants should be ready to save the piglets from crushing
9. Furrowing happens 2-4 hours and the placenta sheds within 2 hours
10. Feeding prior to furrowing should be restricted and a laxative diet
11. Space allowance should be 40-50 sq ft
