Thank You Rob for this post. If you have any musical instruments to share ?
Muziki na Mapenzi (music and love)
Hey friends this is a slightly longish post but I ask for your indulgence
As you probably already know (due to my many posts) Laurie and I recently returned from an exciting Safari adventure in Kenya.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the WEMA Centre in Mombasa https://wemacentre.org/
This centre provides a safe home for children rescued from the most deplorable of conditions. They provide housing, food, counseling and educational opportunities giving an enormous boost to kids who would otherwise have a bleak outlook.
While we were there we were treated to some wonderful singing and dancing from these students. We learned that they have just a few weeks ago started a Brass Band program. Naturally I was curious and inquired about their needs. As soon as I asked the coordinator said “I will get them to perform for you”. Within five minutes they had the kids set up and playing. They even allowed me the honour of joining in.
Very long story, short; they played with great energy and joy although to be honest the instruments were not the very best. Which brings me to my purpose.
I have taken on the personal goal of helping them to acquire better and more equipment.
If you or anyone you know has a musical instrument (see wish list below) in good shape and serviceable that you would be willing to donate I will make sure that we get it to them.
They are currently looking for
1) Cornets or trumpets
2) Trombones
3) Euphonium or Baritone horn
4) Tenor saxophone
5) Marching crash cymbals
This is the beginning of what I hope to make an on going project. Please forward this to anyone who you think might be able to help. I can be contacted here or by email at roberto@mariachifuego.com
Thanks for listening. Hope you can help. Please share.
Based in Mombasa, Kenya, the Wema Centre has been transforming lives since 1993, rescuing and nurturing over 30,000 children who once depended on the streets for survival—whether living or working there. These street-connected children face extreme vulnerability and often lack access to basic need...
