Sanergy offers a variety of bold sanitation and waste management solutions for today's growing cities!
A solution that addresses sanitation and waste management systemic gaps from waste containment, emptying, transport, treatment and reuse of waste generated. Our approach involves building a repertoire of low-cost, high-quality sanitation products and services for residents living in urban non-sewered areas, safely removing all of the waste generated by our customers and transporting it to our central processing plant for treatment and up-cycling into high quality agricultural inputs. To date, we have built a network of over 3,000 Fresh Life Toilets, which serve over 100,000 urban residents with safe sanitation every single day. We also safely remove and up-cycle over 12,000 metric tonnes of waste every year.

As the world gathers in Belém, Brazil to tackle the climate crisis, Sanergy is showing what real climate solutions look like on the ground. By transforming urban waste into valuable resources that is nutrient-rich fertilizer and renewable energy,we’re closing the loop for healthier cities and a cooler planet. Circular economy isn’t just a buzzword for us,it’s daily practice that empowers communities, cuts emissions, and delivers results that global pledges alone can’t. At , we’re calling for climate action that starts with safe sanitation and ends with thriving, resilient cities.

It's not everyday that a Sanergy Collaborative Fellow is recognized as a MacArthur Genius Awardee! Will Tarpeh, who is now a professor at Stanford, worked with us in Kenya in 2012-14. His research focused on extracting minerals like struvite, which is rich in phosphate, from urine. Struvite can be used as an organic fertilizer to help crops grow. This research has been very helpful for us as we work to create value from waste, and therefore make it more cost-effective to provide safe sanitation for residents of urban informal settlements and climate-smart agricultural inputs for farmers across Kenya.
We congratulate Will on the distinction from the MacArthur Foundation, and we are beyond proud of all that he's gone on to done to advance the circular economy and improve people's lives through smart sanitation solutions.
The MacArthur Foundation supports creative people and effective institutions committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. In addition to selecting the MacArthur Fellows, we work to defend human rights, advance global conservation and security, make cities better places, and unders...

Did you know there are two types of carbon credits? Those that prevent CO₂ from entering the atmosphere, and those that remove it from the atmosphere. Learn more about carbon credits and the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) on GSMA Mobile for Development’s Guide for Startups - in which Sanergy is featured as a case study driving climate impact through safe sanitation and waste management.
Thank you GSMA for highlighting our work. Read the full case study here: https://lnkd.in/eFXAjC_D
🌳 Carbon Credit in Sanitation: A VCM Case Study
In our new Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) guide for startups, we feature an innovative Nairobi based company - Sanergy Collaborative that offers locally built, cost-effective dry toilets which are a clean and affordable alternative to traditional sewer systems.
🚫 Emissions reductions come as a result of composting the waste (if untreated, would decompose anaerobically and release methane into the atmosphere) and from the short containment time (compared to other pit/septic tank toilets).
💰 The number of carbon credits generates is directly proportional to the weight of treated waste and linked to the number of toilets deployed in communities.
Find out more about how Sanergy is navigating the market for these first-of-a-kind carbon credits and meeting SDG goals increasing access to safe sanitation (SDG 6) and the volume of recycled waste (SDG 12).
Looking for a way to offset your emissions and drive real climate-action? Now you can!
By purchasing our first-of-their-kind credits, you can:
1. Offset your carbon footprint
2. Support sustainable waste management
3. Promote circular impact solutions

Cities around the world are growing rapidly. Today, the population in urban slums is 1 billion and is expected to increase to more than 3 billion people by 2050. With existing infrastructure already struggling to keep pace, 70% of slum residents live without access to a safe sanitation option. As a result, 1 million people die each year due to sanitation-related diseases, and economies lose $260 billion in impaired productively.
Sanergy has a variety of bold sanitation and waste management solutions for these booming cities! A solution that addresses all systemic gaps from waste containment, emptying, transport, treatment and reuse of waste generated.
Our approach involves building a repertoire of low-cost, high-quality sanitation products and services for residents living in urban non-sewered areas, safely removing all of the waste generated by our customers and transporting it to our central processing plant for treatment and up-cycling into high quality agricultural inputs.
To date, we have built a network of over 3,500 Fresh Life Toilets, which serve over 120,000 urban residents with safe sanitation every single day. We also safely remove and up-cycle over 10,000 metric tonnes of waste every year.
