Kenya Institute of Primate Research - KIPRE joined other conservation partners in celebrating World Monkey Day held at Dipatas grounds, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Laikipia County. Partners present included with KWS, KFS, Mpala Research Centre, Colobus Conservation, Nature Kenya, Ol Jogi, San Diego Zoo(Kenya), Segera Ranch, NEMA, Friends of Karura Forest, Ontulili Primate Protection, Mangar Community Conservancy and the local communities.

Activities of the day involved a Primate walk, a thrilling finals football match, ceremonial tree planting and keynote speeches aimed at creating awareness on the conservation of the endangered species in the Laikipia landscapes. The core message was the need for peaceful human- monkey coexistence, habitat restoration and financing. The call to action emphasized on conservation of the remaining populations of the Eastern Patas monkey and the Mt Kenya Potto which are classified as critically endangered in Kenya . KIPRE’s Evolutionary Ecology, Conservation and Ecosystem Health Division, led by Dr. Stanislaus Kivai, proudly hosted the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) Climate Action Fellows, led by Ms. Salome Owuonda (Member-KIPRE Board of Directors), for a tree-planting exercise at the Oloolua Forest.

In alignment with the Presidential Directive to grow 15 billion trees by 2030, the team successfully planted 500 indigenous tree seedlings.

The day wrapped up with an energizing 7KM walk through The Oloolua Nature Trail, a perfect finish to a meaningful environmental action.

Kenya Institute of Primate Research - KIPRE staff participated in a capacity-building training on the E-Government Procurement (e-GP) system, a key milestone in strengthening transparency, efficiency and compliance in public procurement.

The session equipped staff with practical skills on navigating the digital platform, ensuring streamlined processes and improved service delivery across the Institute. With the system in place there will be enhanced transparency in procurement processes, greater accountability through digital tracking and documentation, improved efficiency in tendering and approvals and compliance with national Public Procurement Regulatory Authority.
KIPRE remains committed to embracing digital transformation and strengthening institutional systems that support research excellence and public trust.

Kenya Institute of Primate Research - KIPRE joined the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC), The Ministry of Health, national government agencies, county governments and key partners in marking World AIDS Day by participating in the World AIDS Day Half Marathon.

This year’s theme “One Race, One Goal: Ending AIDS among Adolescents and Young People” emphasized on the united effort to tackle the triple threat: new HIV infections, adolescent pregnancies and sexual & gender-based violence.

KIPRE staff turned out in impressive numbers, proudly taking part in the 5KM, 10KM and 21KM races to show their support and commitment to the cause.

The snakebite mapping initiative is now underway, bringing together, The Ministry of Health, Kenya Institute of Primate Research - KIPRE through Kenya Snakebite Research & Intervention Centre (KSRIC) and the county health teams to generate vital data for improved prevention, timely referral and enhanced community response.

This marks a significant step toward reducing avoidable deaths, guiding antivenom distribution, and supporting resilient rural communities facing snakebite and other neglected tropical diseases.

Kenya Institute of Primate Research - KIPRE joined the global community in celebrating International Men’s Day through a day of wellness and reflection. The day kicked off with an energizing 5km walk at The Oloolua Nature Trail, followed by an engaging Men’s Talk on wellness and finances and later wrapped with a team-building lunch featuring mbuzi choma which brought colleagues together in appreciation. This year’s male retirees were recognized for their outstanding service and the significant contributions they have made to their colleagues and the institution.
