Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) today hosted a high-level consultative meeting with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Social Health Authority (SHA) to review and strengthen the transition of teachers from their former private insurer, Minet, to the National SHA scheme, which took effect at midnight on 1st December 2025.
The delegation, led by Ibrahim Mumin, Director of Administrative Services at TSC, was received by KNH CEO, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, CBS. Dr. Lesiyampe noted that teachers have long received care at the Kenyatta National Hospital Prime Care Centre (KPCC) and the Corporate Outpatient Clinic (COC). KPCC is KNH’s prime care facility offering inpatient and outpatient services, including specialist clinics, diagnostics, maternity, and pharmacy, under a cost-sharing model. The COC, located on the 1st floor of KNH’s International Trauma Centre (ITC), formerly Accident & Emergency, serves as its outpatient clinic, while KPCC’s inpatient wards are on the 9th and 10th floors. He assured the delegation that service continuity remains fully safeguarded under the new SHA scheme and emphasized that teachers are now covered as Public Officers.
Reporting on the first hours of the transition, Dr. Lesiyampe confirmed that KPCC had forty-two (42) admitted teachers at midnight, with one (1) discharged under the new cover this afternoon. Additionally, fifteen (15) teachers were attended to at the COC without any service interruptions. He added that KNH has set up a monitoring mechanism to address emerging challenges promptly.
Mr. Mumin reaffirmed TSC’s decision to select KNH as the benchmark facility for evaluating the rollout, noting that effective implementation at KNH indicates national readiness. The TSC team toured KPCC alongside KNH’s clinical leadership, observing real-time service delivery.
TSC commended KNH for its preparedness and smooth rollout. KNH reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring seamless, patient-centered care for all teachers under the new scheme.
