Ever heard of men experiencing pregnancy symptoms as an extreme empathy response to a partner's pregnancy? Here's an informative piece about the phenomenon, by The Standard Daily that I was invited to give my professional input on.

Some put on weight, throw up in the morning and develop insatiable cravings while waking up in the middle of the night to satisfy them.

Last Saturday I got really challenged by a bunch of innovative and passionate young social entrepreneurs at the Africa Young Entrepreneurs Support YES Centre . These young souls are juggling school work, day jobs, family obligations, relationships and social life while pouring their hearts in their ventures, so determined to make a difference in areas such as recycling to tackle climate change, access to health care and psychosocial support, access to education and many others.

The Africa YES centre project supports these budding entrepreneurs to actualise their visions through coaching and mentorship on various aspects. Over time it increasingly became apparent to the project team that they needed to incorporate mental health support for these young minds because various psychological issues were discouraging and holding them back. Entrepreneurship comes with its own load of stress, adding onto the normal stresses of life.

I am honoured to be offering mental health support to the participants. We had our 1st group session and I left there humbled, energised and so much wiser!

TRAUMA

Besides terrorism, calamities or accidents..... there are many unaknowledged sources of trauma such as infidelity in a commited relationship, growing up in a violent home, infertility, loss of a significant person through death, spousal abandonment etc, any other kind of loss such as job, property, being conned..... the list is endless.

Seek help, your trauma is valid. If not treated, trauma can develop into something more serious, what we call Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
