Third Trimester (32–36 weeks)

Growth or well-being scan.

✅ Assesses the baby’s size, position, and overall health.

✅ Monitors placenta and fluid levels.

💛 2️⃣ Second Trimester Scan (Anomaly Scan)

When: Between 18–22 weeks

Purpose:

✅ Checks baby’s organs and anatomy for abnormalities

✅ Examines placenta position and amniotic fluid

✅ Monitors baby’s growth and development

🩵 1️⃣ First Trimester Scan (Dating/Viability Scan)

When: Between 6–10 weeks

Purpose:

✅ Confirms the pregnancy is in the uterus (not ectopic)

✅ Confirms the baby’s heartbeat and number of babies

✅ Estimates gestational age and due date

The number and timing of ultrasound scans during pregnancy depend on the mother’s health, the baby’s development, and the type of care available, but generally, there are 3 key recommended ultrasounds for a normal, low-risk pregnancy:
