Our 8th Mission has taken place from 20 -22 February in Banteay Meanchey. While cease-fire has been implemented, many of our compatriots cant still return home due to new frontiers imposed by the Thai army. We estimated around 80,000 people are still living in shelters. Some are in this precarious situation since November. Despite the Cambodian authorities are doing as much as they can, it is worrisome to witness this tragedy. All we can do is pray that our neighbor-country will come to their senses and keep our faith that soon this population can return home safely before the monsoon Season.
With our crew of 45 volunteers (from Doctors, nurses, caregivers, pharmacists, translators, logistics etc.) we were able to reach and provide healthcare to 943 displaced persons.

We would like to give a BIG clap to Pharmacie de la Gare and AEMC teams in particular Srey Len (leader), Nary, Sreymoch and Theany for all this logistic and also to our leader pharmacist Borey.

Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral infection characterised by sudden onset fever, joint pain, and rash. Transmitted primarily by the Aedes mosquitoes, it can cause debilitating joint pain that may persist for months. While rarely fatal, Chikungunya poses a significant health concern, necessitating mosquito control measures in affected regions and emphasising the importance of protective measures to prevent infection.
⚠️ Symptoms associated
Chikungunya's symptoms typically emerge within 4-8 days after an infected mosquito bites you. They can be anything from mild to severe and last weeks, months or longer.
⚠️ Common Symptoms:
⭕️ Fever: A high fever of sudden onset (typically above 39Β° C) can last for several days.
⭕️ Joint Pain: Sharp, crippling pain in joints such as wrists, ankles & knees, fingers. It can be agonizing and continue for weeks to months.
⭕️ Muscle Pain: Muscle pain, often in the back or arms & legs.
⭕️ Headache: Severe, chronic headaches are also pertinent.
⭕️ Fatigue: Profound tiredness along with weakness.
⭕️ Rash: A maculopapular rash appears, usually on the limbs. It is usually very itchy.
⚠️ Less Common Symptoms:
⭕️ Nausea & Vomiting: Others might develop gastrointestinal symptoms.
⭕️ Conjunctivitis: Red & inflamed eyes.
⭕️ Other Skin Symptoms: Mouth blisters or ulcers in some cases, & skin peeling and ⚠️ discolouration.
⭕️ Neurological Complications: Sometimes, however, Chikungunya can cause neurological problems such as encephalitis or even Guillain-BarrΓ© syndrome.

A rise of chikungunya cases has been noticed across the country. Please stay informed, protect yourself, and know the warning signs.
The transmission occurs through the following mediums:
* Mosquito Bite: Once biting an infected person, the Aedes mosquito becomes a carrier of the virus. Once it is infected, the mosquito can pass on the virus to healthy individuals in later bites.
* Vertical Transmission: The virus can also spread in rare cases from a pregnant woman to her baby during childbirth.
⚠️ Symptoms associated
Chikungunya's symptoms typically emerge within 4-8 days after an infected mosquito bites you. They can be anything from mild to severe and last weeks, months or longer.
⚠️ Common Symptoms:
⭕️ Fever: A high fever of sudden onset (typically above 39Β° C) can last for several days.
⭕️ Joint Pain: Sharp, crippling pain in joints such as wrists, ankles & knees, fingers. It can be agonizing and continue for weeks to months.
⭕️ Muscle Pain: Muscle pain, often in the back or arms & legs.
⭕️ Headache: Severe, chronic headaches are also pertinent.
⭕️ Fatigue: Profound tiredness along with weakness.
⭕️ Rash: A maculopapular rash appears, usually on the limbs. It is usually very itchy.
⚠️ Less Common Symptoms:
⭕️ Nausea & Vomiting: Others might develop gastrointestinal symptoms.
⭕️ Conjunctivitis: Red & inflamed eyes.
⭕️ Other Skin Symptoms: Mouth blisters or ulcers in some cases, & skin peeling and ⚠️ discolouration.
⭕️ Neurological Complications: Sometimes, however, Chikungunya can cause neurological problems such as encephalitis or even Guillain-BarrΓ© syndrome.
⚠️ Chronic Symptoms:
⭕️ Persistent Joint Pain: For some, joint pain can last for months or even years and affect their mobility as well
⭕️ Chronic Fatigue: After the acute phase, some people may feel persistent fatigue & weakness.

What can you do to stay safe from poor air quality?

Air pollution can threaten anyone's health, so stay up to date on the AQI ( Air Quality Index) in your area. AQI forecasts and real-time information can be found on EPA’s AirNow Website. AQI values at or below 100 are generally thought of as satisfactory but be aware of how you feel and take steps to help protect yourself whenever needed.

On days when the air quality is orange, red, purple or maroon:

1. Reduce the time you spend outdoors when the AQI value is high. Also, reduce the intensity of outdoor activity. According to the EPA, the chances of being affected by unhealthy levels of air pollution increase the longer a person is active outdoors and the more strenuous the activity.
2. If you must go outdoors, consider wearing a mask. β€œUnfortunately, not all masks provide adequate protection against particle pollution. Cloth or dust masks, for instance, may not effectively filter out fine particles. However, well-fitted N95 or KN95 masks have better filtration capabilities and may be beneficial on days when the AQI level of concern is high.
3. Keep your air indoors healthy by keeping the windows and doors closed. Run air conditioning on the recirculate setting, use a portable HEPA air cleaner or, if it is difficult to maintain clean air in your entire house, create a clean room.
