Compared with CAD/CAM splints and PSIs, AR–PSI improved pitch accuracy and control.

The AR system enhanced depth perception and reduced intraoperative adjustments.

The use of rocuronium with sugammadex in OGS is associated with enhanced postoperative recovery, including reduced extubation time, decreased intraoperative blood loss, and shorter hospital stay.

Orthognathic surgery (OGS) often necessitates deep neuromuscular blockade to optimize surgical conditions, but the choice of neuromuscular blocking and reversal agents may influence postoperative r...

Based on the limited evidence available in our study, clear aligners may provide outcomes similar to those of fixed appliances in orthognathic surgery. They might also offer additional benefits in terms of periodontal health and patient satisfaction.

Clear aligners, known for their esthetic appeal, are now increasingly utilized in orthognathic surgery treatment, offering preoperative and postoperative benefits. This systematic review aims to answer the research question: Are clear aligners as effective as traditional fixed appliances in achievin...

Over recent decades, orthognathic surgery planning has advanced significantly, transitioning from free-hand positioning to model surgery techniques, and more recently to virtual surgical planning (VSP), which enhances visualization of the surgical anatomy and a computer-aided design and computer-aid...

Our results indicated that the incidence of condylar resorption was higher in the SCII group (46.7%) than in the SCIII group (37.2%). The condylar angle was preoperatively higher in the SCII group, and this tendency did not change during the follow-up period.

the SCII group showed a higher incidence of anterior disc displacement.

Background Orthodontic-orthognathic treatment is the standard of care for moderate and/or severe skeletal class III (SCIII) malocclusion. Following orthognathic surgery, morphological changes in the temporomandibular joint structures (TMJ) may contribute to condylar resorption (CR). Objectives This....

There have been advances in 3D virtual planning where all aspects of surgical planning can be done virtually without the need for study models. The 3D printing of patient specific cutting guides, custom made plates and guiding wafers can provide more accuracy in the surgical movements and reduce surgical time and intra-operative complications.6

Sleep apnea over recent years is increasing in number with case studies up to 38 % prevalence of patients having an apnea-hypopnea index greater than 16. Orthognathic surgery or Facial Skeleton Advancement surgery is one of the recognized options to manage patients with severe sleep apnea. The face and mouth can be seen as closed box with internal dynamic contents. When the patient sleeps and relaxes all the internal contents have the potential to fall back on the airway, with careful patient selection increasing the size of the box has been shown to be a successful procedure in managing sleep apnea.10,11

Methods of Enhancing recovery for orthognathic patients’ needs to be utilized. The adjuncts to improve recovery and reduce post operative swelling have now been developed include minimal invasive approaches to the facial Skelton, the use of tranexamic acid to reduce bleeding time, steroids and post op operative cooling masks. All allow quicker recovery and earlier discharge. Single jaw surgery could be done as a day case procedure. 12,13,14

Orthognathic surgery is one of the “bread and butter” procedures for the specialty. It is a well-established procedure with many variations. It has come along away since Hullihen and Oberwegseser descriptions in subsequent modifications from 1849 to 19691,2,3,4. With improving technology and pre...
