Walking is great β€” but walking with a weighted vest? Even better for menopausal bone health 🦴✨

πŸ”Ή Benefits of weighted-vest walking

βœ… Increases bone-loading forces β†’ stimulates bone-forming cells (osteoblasts)
βœ… Improves lower-body and core strength
βœ… Raises metabolic rate β†’ helps with weight maintenance
βœ… Protects joints more than running or jumping

Studies show weighted-vest walking can maintain or increase bone density in postmenopausal women, especially when done consistently.

βΈ»

βœ… How to do it safely
β€’ Start light: 2–5% of body weight
β€’ (Example: If 70 kg β†’ start with 1.5–3.5 kg vest)
β€’ Gradually increase weight every 2–4 weeks
β€’ Walk 3–4 days/week, 30–45 minutes
β€’ Include hills or stairs for extra bone stimulus
β€’ Maintain upright posture and avoid leaning forward

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) affects 1-3 in 100 women under 40 β€” yet it’s often missed or misdiagnosed.
If your periods have stopped or become irregular before 40, and you’re experiencing hot flashes, low mood, or fertility changes β€” it’s worth checking your hormone levels.
Early diagnosis means early support β€” for your bones, heart, and emotional wellbeing. πŸ’›
POI is not the end of your story β€” it’s a chapter that deserves understanding and care. πŸ’›
Support, hormone therapy, and lifestyle changes can make a world of difference.

✨ Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) is a minimally invasive procedure used to shrink fibroids by blocking their blood supply. It helps relieve heavy bleeding, pain, and pressureβ€”without major surgery.

Here you can see the blood vessels surrounding a fibroid, then the procedure is done and the blood vessels are occluded leading to degeneration of the fibroid.

πŸ‘‚βœ¨ Did you know itchy ears can be linked to perimenopause?
As estrogen levels fall, your skin and mucous membranes dry out β€” even in places you’d never expect, like the ear canal.
It’s a small but surprisingly common symptom that often gets overlooked.
Hydration, gentle oils, and awareness can help

πŸ”₯What is a hot flash?
A hot flash (or flush) is one of the most common symptoms of menopause. It feels like a sudden wave of heat, often with sweating, a racing heart, and sometimes chills afterwards.

This happens because falling estrogen levels affect the brain’s thermostat (the hypothalamus), which mistakenly thinks the body is overheating and activates cooling mechanisms.

πŸ₯΅Hot flashes are normal, but if they disrupt daily life or sleep, support and treatment options are available.

😒Black women unfortunately experience the worst hot flashes for the longest period of time (10 years) when compared to other races

πŸ’¬ Is there any menopause topic you would like me to discuss? CommentπŸ‘‡

🩺 What Happened to Breast Cancer Rates After Women Stopped HRT in 2002?

Millions of women stopped using HRT almost overnight.

πŸ“‰ In 2003, breast cancer rates dropped β€” but here’s the truth:
β€’ The drop was too sudden to be caused by stopping HRT (cancer takes years to develop).
β€’ It was mostly due to changes in how breast cancer was detected and reported that year.

πŸ”Ž What happened in the 20 years since?
β€’ Breast cancer rates did not keep going down.
β€’ They have stayed stable or even slightly increased in some groups β€” despite fewer women using HRT.
β€’ Other factors like age, weight, alcohol, and lifestyle play a much bigger role in breast cancer risk.

πŸ’‘ Estrogen-only HRT (used after hysterectomy) was even linked to a lower risk of breast cancer in follow-up studies.

βœ… Bottom line: The fear that HRT caused a major breast cancer crisis was overstated. For many women, HRT is a safe and effective option β€” and the decision should be made together with your doctor based on your individual risk.
