This month's webinar of the College of Palliative Medicine Sri Lanka will be conducted by Dr Nadisha Ratnasekara on 30 October 2025 at 8.30PM.

Dr. Nadisha Ratnasekera is a Dental Public Health professional and clinical researcher with over a decade of experience in bridging practice, policy, and research. She currently serves as the National Research Network Coordinator for CanSPARKโ€“LTC at the Bruyรจre Research Institute, University of Ottawa, a pan-Canadian network advancing long-term care research.

The council comprises health care professionals across all key medical & surgical fraternities to bring forth holistic palliative care to the nation.

This delegation within the council will be working closely and in collaboration with all other allied health sciences to achieve its many goals set forth by their leadership.

COLOMBO โ€“ College of Palliative Medicine of Sri Lanka celebrated a new chapter in its leadership with the ceremonial induction of Dr. Renuka Jayatissa as its fifth President. The distinguished event took place on the evening of Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, attended by leading figures from the nation's medical community.

The ceremony marked a formal transition of leadership, with the outgoing president, Dr. Ranga Perera, officially handing over the presidential medal to Dr. Jayatissa. This symbolic gesture signified the continuation of the college's vital mission to advance compassionate care in Sri Lanka.

In her inaugural address, Dr. Renuka Jayatissa passionately articulated the profound importance of palliative medicine in modern healthcare. She presented compelling facts on how palliative care significantly improves the quality of life for patients and their families facing serious illnesses by providing relief from symptoms, pain, and stress. Dr. Jayatissa emphasized that this specialized medical care is a fundamental human right and a critical component of a comprehensive healthcare system.

The evening was graced by the presence of two highly respected figures in Sri Lankan medicine. The Chief Guest was Emeritus Professor Sarath Lekamwasam, the esteemed past Chair of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Karapitiya. The Guest of Honour was Emeritus Professor Aloka Pathirana, a renowned Professor of Surgery from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Their presence underscored the collaborative and multidisciplinary support for the growing field of palliative medicine.

Under Dr. Jayatissa's leadership, the College of Palliative Medicine is expected to further its advocacy, expand training for healthcare professionals, and champion the integration of palliative care services across the island, ensuring dignity and comfort for all patients in need.
