Being a female in a male-dominated arena like politics cannot be easy. But hats off to 'iron lady' who fires back at the recent unnecessary sexualisation of her breasts, putting the objectification right back in its place. Swipe right to see her statement πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ’™

Our experiences may look different. Our support structures may not be the same. But for each one of us, there will be that area we wished that we had more support in.
β€’
For me it was breastfeeding, and yes I mourned how unnecessarily difficult the process was as a result. But it also birthed The Milk Coach, and my desire to help even just ONE mum to feel supported where they previously were not.
β€’
So for each one of you, you may feel disappointed or even angry, you may wish that it was different, and that you had more support in that one area (or two or three!) I'm sending a big hug to you πŸ€— But you can also use your experience to make sure that with the next mum you come across, you know how to support them.
β€’
It takes a village.

My friend has a motto - "When in doubt, whip it out". It has definitely been my life hack on many occasions with my two boys (Resisting sleep? Fallen off the sofa? Crying nonstop at the visa office? Fluey? Breastfeeding got my back!).
β€’
But do you know that science actually backs this up? A study on babies undergoing blood tests (the dreaded heel lance) showed that babies who were being breastfed showed 91% less crying and 84% less grimacing than babies who were not being breastfed. What's even more fascinating is that 11 of the 15 breastfed babies did not cry or grimace at all - suggesting the pain had not even started. The study also showed that breastfeeding prevented the normal rise in heart rate associated with pain.
β€’
Now realistically you may not be comfortable whipping a breast out at the hospital at vaccination time, but some breastfeeding soon after can help with the pain!

August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month!

The messages we receive around feeding and becoming a food source can be challenging to navigate. Though well intentioned, sometimes they can invoke feelings such as shame, guilt, and that gut-wrenching question of, β€œwhat’s wrong with me?”
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
This month isn’t to shame choosing or needing an alternative method of feeding your child. It’s to recognize that breastfeeding can be beautiful and it can also be brutal at times. It is meant to educate and empower parents to know their options and make the best possible choice for their family.

SUPPORT is best.
