Liberia Pharmacy Board The Pharmacy Board of Liberia is a regulatory Authority that was established by an act of Pharmacy in 1967 to regulate the practice of Pharmacy in Liberia.

The Liberia Pharmacy Board has the legal mandate as the regulating authority for the practice of Pharmacy in Liberia. the Board was also legislatively established by an act to ensure that every pharmaceutical entity operating in Liberia, meets basic requirements for safe practice, improve productivity, efficiency, and professionalism. its aim is to promote, preserve, and protect the public health. Regulates and controls the personnel involve in Pharmacy practice and discipline. Review of quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines to ensure public health safety. Accreditation and monitoring of institution providing training in various areas of Pharmacy education. Provide accurate and updated information on drug use and new drug development. Licensing of personnel _ Pharmacist, pharmacy Technicians, and dispensers. Regulates and control the premises involved in the storage, distribution, and sale of Medicines. Inspection and supervision of personnel, pharmaceutical outlets (Retailed Pharmacy, Medicine store and health facilities Pharmacy and dispensary) and health products.

The Liberia Pharmacy Board is expected to host an Annual Review and Evaluation meeting in the country.

The meeting which is expected to be held in Ganta City, Nimba County from the 10th to the 12th of December will bring together both senior and junior management team of the entity as well as other major stakeholders of the pharmaceutical Sector for the purpose of this deliberations.

Purpose of the meeting is to Document the achievements of the Board, highlighting the challenges and suggesting new ways forward for effectively regulating the practice of Pharmacy in Liberia and also reviewing major activities planned for 2022 which will be key on the agenda.

Meanwhile other related issues to be discussed at the Technical review sessions will include presentation of summary reports from January to December this year from each department such as:

▪︎Registration and Documentation
▪︎Inspectorate
▪︎Research and Drug information service
▪︎Finance
▪︎Education, Training and Evaluation

The Meeting will also focus on review of the LPB legal mandate and the progress update for 2021, Swot analysis of the Liberia Pharmacy Board while keynote address will be essential as well.

DECENTRALIZATION OF THE PHARMACY BOARD TO PROVIDE COMPLETE NATIONWIDE COVERAGE FOR REGULATION OF PHARMACY PRACTICE.

The decentralization of the Pharmacy Board is aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Board to effectively regulate the practice of Pharmacy nationwide.
This plan includes the establishment of additional three regional headquarters in base on geographic division of the Board operations.

These regional offices will move the Board closer to the people for processing of their legal documents and will make the Board more visible in term of inspections, monitoring and supervision.

The effective enforcement of the public health law on the handling and sale of pharmaceuticals will be vigorously effective and thereby ensuring public safety and access to medicines that are potent and safe for human consumption.

(For Nimba, B**g, and Lofa Counties).
▪︎Furnishing of Region #1 Headquarters office.
▪︎Employment and development of additional staff including a Pharmacist as Regional Director

▪︎Headquarters in Zwedru city, Grand Gedeh County (for River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Maryland
and Grand Kru counties).
▪︎Establish and furnish Region #2 Headquarters Office.
▪︎Employment and development of additional staff including a Pharmacist as Regional Director.

Region #3
▪︎Headquarters in Buchanan city Grand Bassa County (for Grand Bassa, River Cess, Sinoe and Margibi counties) Establish and furnish Region #3 Headquarters office.

For Immediate Release

The Liberia Pharmacy Board hereby issue the following mandate in the wake of corona virus resurgence in Liberia. These preventive measures are intended to guide the safe operations of pharmaceutical outlets and to promote and protect public safety.

ALL PHARMACY SHOPS, MEDICINE STORES AND HEALTH FACILITY DISPENSARY MUST ENSURE THAT:

Chlorinated water and soap be placed in a bucket at the entrance at all time during business hour for hand washing.

Clients entering the Pharmacy shop or medicine store must wear nose mask and do proper hand washing (at least 30 seconds) or use of alcohol based hand sanitizer.

The premise runs Red Line or Ribbon as a Stop Zone for anyone entering the premise.

Client or anyone entering the premise must not be allowed to touch or rest on the counter.

Dispenser(s) in all pharmaceutical outlets must adhere to social distancing which is at least 6ft marked in RED by instructing the client to stand at the RED mark on the flood.

Dispensers within the premise disinfect the counter as often as possible.

Dispensers must use nose mask at all time when serving client.

No Dispenser should touch the client when serving him or her at anytime.

Number of persons allowed in the premise at any time to buy pharmaceuticals must follow these guidelines:

1_ Pharmacy shop....2 to 3 persons, while the other people wait in line outside and observe the social distancing.

2_ Medicine....1 person, while the other person waits in line outside and observe the social distancing.

All Dispensers are to strictly adhere to the constitutional law of ''Do Not Treat Anyone in the shop''. Any Pharmacy, Medicine store or Health Facility Dispensary that will violate the above guidelines will be penalized in accordance with the Pharmacy ACT.
