Bong University Students Union Secures Seat on the Madam Suakoko Scholarship Committee.
After several months of persistent advocacy and constructive engagement, the Bong University Students Union (BUSU) is pleased to announce that the leadership of Bong County has officially extended an invitation to BUSU to serve as a member of the prestigious Madam Suakoko Scholarship Committee.
In a formal communication addressed to BUSU, the County Leadership, through the Office of the Superintendent, Hon. Loleiyah Hawa Norris, expressed compliments and formally requested the Union to designate a representative who will actively participate as a member of the Committee. This decision comes as a direct outcome of collective calls from the student community for inclusion and representation in decision-making processes that directly affect their educational opportunities.
The Madam Suakoko Scholarship Committee, which was recently re-established through a resolution during the just-ended County Council Sitting, is designed to empower the citizens of Bong County by providing educational support. The program is not only a direct investment in human capacity but also a vehicle for ensuring that young people are better prepared, marketable, and competitive in the job market.
The inclusion of BUSU on this committee is of significant importance. It reflects a new era of collaboration between students and county authorities and guarantees that students’ voices will be heard in the vetting and awarding of scholarships. For years, there have been concerns about transparency and fairness in scholarship distribution. By including BUSU, the process now gains added credibility and legitimacy, ensuring that qualified students are considered on merit.
Furthermore, this representation underscores the value of student leadership and advocacy. It demonstrates that persistence, dialogue, and constructive engagement with authorities can yield meaningful results. The presence of BUSU on the Committee is not just symbolic; it provides assurance that student interests will be safeguarded, and the criteria for awarding scholarships will be transparent and inclusive.
BUSU acknowledges the importance of this milestone and commits to fulfilling its responsibility with integrity, accountability, and a student-centered focus. We extend our appreciation to the County Leadership for responding positively to the calls of the student community. We also recognize that this is a collective victory for all students of Bong County, as education remains the cornerstone of progress and sustainable development.
As we take our seat on the Madam Suakoko Scholarship Committee, BUSU pledges to ensure that this opportunity is used to advance equitable access to education, promote fairness in scholarship distribution, and uphold the legacy of Madam Suakoko, whose name symbolizes courage, empowerment, and service to humanity.
