🌍 World AMR Awareness Week 2025

đź’™Act Now, Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future đź’›

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is growing faster than we think—and it affects us all. When medicines like antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals stop working, common infections become harder to treat, medical procedures become riskier, and our health systems become more vulnerable.
But together, we can change this trajectory.

✨ Small actions today protect our future tomorrow.
✔️ Use antibiotics only when prescribed by a trained health professional
✔️ Never share or save leftover antibiotics
✔️ Practice good hygiene and get recommended vaccinations
✔️ Support policies that promote responsible antimicrobial use in human health, animal health, and agriculture

AHF joins the global community to commemorate the World AMR Awareness Week 2025 to reflect on the urgent need for bold, well-coordinated, multidisciplinary collaboration to address AMR
Act now—to protect our present and secure a healthier, safer future for everyone.

AHF Lesotho successfully hosted a media breakfast meeting under the theme “Strengthening Media Engagement in the Fight Against HIV.” The event brought together representatives from various media houses, public health partners, and AHF Lesotho staff to explore ways of enhancing collaboration between the media and the HIV response.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Nthoesele Letoao, Country Manager of AHF Lesotho, emphasized that the media is a pivotal partner not only in shaping public understanding and influencing attitudes but also in driving key advocacy agendas. She highlighted the critical role of the media in advancing Domestic Health Financing, promoting Social and Behavioral Change Communication, amplifying case identification strategies such as Index Testing, and supporting efficient and effective client engagement to facilitate retention in care.
The Country Program Manager further noted that accurate, compassionate, and sustained HIV reporting remains essential in eliminating stigma, promoting prevention, and ensuring that national and community-level interventions reach those who need them most.
The meeting featured rich discussions during group plenary sessions, where participants reflected on the current landscape of HIV reporting in Lesotho, identified key challenges, and proposed innovative ways to strengthen media engagement. Key recommendations included:

Enhancing collaboration and information sharing between media and health stakeholders;
Providing targeted training and resources to journalists to strengthen HIV reporting;
Promoting positive storytelling that celebrates progress while addressing remaining gaps; and
Leveraging digital and social media platforms to reach younger and hard-to-reach audiences effectively.

Media houses reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the media continues to serve as a powerful partner in advancing Lesotho’s national HIV response. AHF Lesotho expressed its appreciation to all attendees for their active participation and valuable contributions.
Together, we can continue building a strong, informed, and compassionate media community that drives progress toward an HIV-free Lesotho.
