Wellness Wednesday!!!

Consistent Healthy Habits always WINS! Yes have your goal in your head but focus on creating lifestyle habits to maintain that goal!

There are just over 9weeks left for the year! More than enough time to break bad habits and to create healthy new ones!

So for the rest of the year introduce 1 new healthy habit each week and try to keep it, so by the end of 2021 you would’ve kicked the bad habits out and start 2022 with a good healthy sustainable lifestyle!

Here are my top must do healthy habits:
✅Eat fresh whole foods 80% of the time and allow 20% for convenient foods and treats
✅Eat Protein at every meal to reach at least 1.6g - 1.8g of protein per kg of body weight
✅Move your body, reach 10000steps everyday

No pain, no gain ‼️

Picture this:
You experience pain when you exercise, so you play it safe and stop exercising to see a medical professional. The medical professional then prescribes exercise therapy?!?!

Say what⁉️

Maybe we can help give you a better understanding of this.

Over the last few decades, research has concluded that...drumroll:

📢REHAB DOES NOT NEED TO BE PAIN FREE!!!!📢

This particular research study had combined 9 different studies that were investigating rehabilitation of chronic musculoskeletal pain by using either pain free exercise or exercise that allowed for some pain. The authors had concluded that pain with exercise does not need to be avoided and actually offers short term benefits over pain free exercise.

While small increases in pain during rehab are okay, it is important to note that any symptoms you were experiencing show gradual improvement from week to week

If you are unsure if it is safe to exercise with pain remember:

👍🏻 Your pain during and after exercise should be tolerable
👍🏻 Any increase in your daily pain may be an indication to decrease the intensity of your exercises

Disclaimer: Different types of injuries benefit from exercise with some pain differently (bone, muscular, tendons, ligaments injuries). Please see a biokineticist who has subjective and objective measures to guide you accordingly ☺️

Diabetes Mellitus 🍩

A group of diseases that result in too much sugar in the blood.

There are many different types of diabetes, however, the most frequently diagnosed are:

💉 Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus - the pancreas produces too little or no insulin.
💊 Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus - the process in which the body processes blood sugar is affected. This can be corrected with a change in lifestyle habits such as nutrition and physical activity.
🤰Gestational Diabetes - diabetes that may be developed during pregnancy

So how can a Biokineticist help you?

Exercise has proven to have many great benefits for diabetes:

🏋️‍♀️Decreases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases
🏋️‍♀️ May prevent pre-diabetics (blood sugar levels are high but not high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetic) from developing type 2 diabetes.
🏋️‍♀️Improves mental and physical wellbeing
🏋️‍♀️ Contributes to weight loss
🏋️‍♀️ Increases sensitivity to insulin (helps the body process insulin better)

A biokineticist can monitor your training, and design exercise sessions that will be beneficial to assisting you and not put you in harms way.

Contact us today to combat your diabetes and don't worry we won't sugarcoat anything 😉
