Media Release #2 12/11/21
Hundreds of sacked Tasmanian healthcare workers are today fighting back against the Tasmanian Government’s aggressive ‘No Jab No Job’ mandate.
The Tasmanian Healthcare Providers and Services (THPS) has proceedings before the Full Court of the Supreme Court of Tasmania on the 12/11/2021.
The Tasmanian Government’s heavy handed and oppressive ultimatum of forcing its healthcare workers to have a vaccine that is still in trial phase or be terminated, is unethical, coercive and a violation of basic human rights.
The 'No Jab No Job' mandates make no sense. If we are in a pandemic requiring an emergency response, and healthcare workers have weathered the pandemic storm without needing a provisionally approved vaccine, why are the healthcare workers now being forced to ‘take the jab’ they haven’t needed, or be sacked?
Is this really about health?
The Government’s risk management approach is flawed; those who have been COVID-19 vaccinated, whether healthcare workers or members of the public, can also still contract, transmit and spread COVID-19.
Already the Tasmanian health system is feeling the impacts of this Government’s shortsighted decision and it's only set to get worse. At a time when we need all hands on deck to fight this pandemic, this mandate decision by politicians and bureaucrats is compromising the provision of healthcare services to the Tasmanian community. This impending health catastrophe and disruption of service delivery is solely of the Government’s making and it is entirely preventable.
It is particularly disappointing that the Tasmanian Government is now so callously terminating hardworking and dedicated frontline healthcare workers who have put themselves at risk from the outset of the pandemic, after standing them down without pay.
THPS looks forward to presenting its case to the Supreme Court of Tasmania. There are many issues that need to be heard resulting from these threatening mandates and we look forward to a positive resolution. We reiterate that we are ready and willing to work and to continue to care for the Tasmanian community.
