Freedom essentially comes from adopting a generous spirit toward ourselves. By accepting people, by understanding and if possible even loving them for their human nature, we can liberate our minds from obsessive and petty emotions. We can stop reacting to everything people do and say. We can have some distance and stop ourselves from taking everything personally... when we feel generous toward people and ourselves.

I have come to think that boredom is the worst of all trump's evils, worse than hunger and discomfort, worse than the constant feeling of being socially disgraced. It is a silly piece of cruelty to confine an ignorant man all the day with nothing to do; it is like chaining a dog in barrel. Only an educated man, who has consolations within himself, can endure confinement.
