📢The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has released the latest results on gender equality across the EU. This year’s Gender Equality Index (GEI) introduces a new and improved methodology, offering a more accurate picture of progress. With this update, the 2025 Index establishes a new baseline for measuring gender equality.

➡️ The EU’s overall score is 63.4. Malta has achieved a score of 58.9 out of 100 in the GEI 2025, placing the country 16th among EU Member States. This represents significant progress over the past decade: Malta scored 46.1 points in 2015 and 50.3 points in 2020. The increase to 58.9 in 2025 reflects Malta’s commitment to advancing gender equality.

➡We are more connected than ever. But with technology shaping the way we work, new risks have emerged.

➡Cyber sexual harassment is one of them. It affects 7% of working women, and 18.4% experience it repeatedly.

➡Why does this matter? Because online harassment often continues what started in person, and it can be even harder to escape.

👉 Our workplaces should make everyone feel safe.

Sadly, that’s still not the reality. Sexual harassment at work is more common than it seems.

One of the biggest problems is the lack of formal reporting. Too many women stay silent because of:

➡Fear of retaliation
➡Worries about not being believed
➡Uncertainty about what happens after reporting — especially for young workers in less secure jobs

But we can change this.
