Food I wouldn’t recommend in February 👇🏼

In February Vata is still high in nature and we need warmth & nourishment to balance the dry and cold qualities.

At the same time Kapha is rising and Ama (undigested metabolic waste) starts accumulating. Kapha is cold, heavy and has sticky qualities. Our agni (digestive fire) gets weaker.

As per Ayurveda you should reduce the consumption of the following foods at the moment:

🧀 Cheese is cold, slimy and heavy. It’s very difficult to digest and in overconsumption cloges the channels inside our bodies. Especially when you suffer from allergies like hay fever it’s a good idea to avoid cheese at the moment.

🥬 Raw salads are cold and as well very heavy to digest. What your body needs in February is warmth, not adding more cold qualities.

🧊 Iced drinks weaken our digestive fire. Especially when having it with your meal. Our body always tries to keep our body temperature the same. Having an iced drink is like a little shock to your stomach. This is not the time for a cold drink. Actually Ayurveda doesn’t recommend iced drinks at all.

Feeling a little bloated, sluggish or tired?

Welcome to the late winter!

Vata is still high in nature which means we still need to keep an eye on good nourishment. Harsh detox and strict diets are a no go at the moment. But at the same time Kapha slowly starts accumulating in nature and our bodies. There might be a heavier feel, digestion slows down, even Ama (undigested metabolic waste) can start to build up.

So what can you do to support your body during this season?

🌿 Start your day with a cup of warm water with a pinch of dried ginger. This gently kindles agni (digestive fire)
🌿 Add spices like fennel and cumin to your meals. They support digestion.
🌿 Stick to warm and regular meals! That’s such a game changer. Warm meals are easier to digest and regular meal timings signal safety to the nervous system.
🌿 Swap a heavy dinner for a nourishing soup to support agni.
🌿 Go for a walk, do yoga, lift some weights. Anything is welcome. Get your body moving!

Winter is not for detox!

Even if society tells us we need to have new year resolutions and weight loss advertising is everywhere…

✅ This is your permission to take it easy and wait!

Winter is the time to nourish the body and rest. As long as it’s still cold, dry and windy, Ayurveda recommends this season of the year for rasayana - rejuvenation, to build immunity and regenerate the body.

How do you feel about AI content?

Instagram is flooded by content created by AI, not much left of the human being behind the account.

I do really get tired reading captions and posts created by AI. They all sound the same. No more creativity, no more personality. And not even social media only, I read articles online, even in magazines and spot the AI language…

This is not a … it‘s a …! It’s more than a… it’s a… !

Honestly, it saddens and scares me. I feel like we‘re losing our human touch and diversity. Now it looks like AI taking over Instagram, I even see big accounts creating content or newsletters with AI.

I use chatGPT as well. Especially at the beginning it was fascinating. Less thinking for me, AI does the work in just seconds. But then I noticed that I would never use the wording. It doesn’t sound like me. And AI makes mistakes. Everything needs to be double checked. What I use it for atm is a good brainstorming when I feel stuck. That‘s actually quite helpful.

But now I’m more sure than ever, I don’t want AI in my content. I want my content to look and sound like me, not like AI and all the other accounts using it.

Every December, I often hear the same thing:

“I love all the cozy treats… but I’m scared of gaining weight.”

Let me tell you something gently:
It’s perfectly normal to have more appetite. It’s totally ok to eat more than in summer. Your body wants more grounding, warmth, and comfort in winter.

Ayurveda teaches that a little extra nourishment during the colder season is normal and even supportive for digestion, immunity, and emotional balance. Your body actually works harder in winter and needing more isn’t something to fight.

Eat that yummy cookie! 😉

Do you feel the pressure to “stay small” during the holiday season? Or are you learning to soften into more nourishment?

Make a snack buffet but healthy! 😋

Recently I did the catering for a birthday. I love to prepare foods that are healthy but as well super yum! 🤩

Party food doesn’t need to be all fried and heavy or sandwiches. And for cakes you don’t need loads of sugar. I always go with half the sugar that’s used in the recipe and it’s still sweet and tasty!

I love to make dips from legumes. 🫛 They are so versatile and you can blend them with all kinds of herbs or veggies. Plus the soluble fiber feeds the good gut bacteria and helps cleaning out bile. Legumes are definitely my favorite health foods! 😍

Or instead of just a bland pasta salad with pesto and feta cheese, I always add veggies, rucola, seeds, beans and spices. Adding beans to pasta is a real game changer! They make you feel full longer and - I repeat myself - they are so beneficial for the gut. Eat more beans!

Does this sound familiar:
You’re stressed, you’re hungry, no time to cook. All you feel like is that pizza, chips, a chocolate bar (or whatever you’re craving). That would definitely make you feel better!

I feel that, I have been there too. And sometimes it’s ok to just eat that chocolate or pizza. But if this happens every day, there’s a problem. In this moment it feels like the best solution, but truth is your mind is tricking you. It doesn’t take your stress away. It actually weakens your body further. What you truly need in this moment is a break. A hug. Some time for yourself. You name it.

➡️ When you’re stressed, you’re body is not able to digest properly. Consuming heavy meals under stress can overload your digestion (agni). What follows is bloating, brain fog, sluggishness. No energy. Over time it can lead to the buildup of ama, which is undigested metabolic waste, and cause more problems.

✨ What you’re body really needs to heal is a meal that nourishes and grounds you but doesn’t overwhelm your digestion.

🌿 In my 2.5h „Rest & Digest“ Workshop with .mt you’ll learn how to balance your nervous system and understand the impact of a nourishing diet on body and mind to bring more balance into your daily life.
