AquaBioTech Group were delighted to kick-start 2026 by delivering a workshop and training session in the Maldives on 7th & 8th January, on behalf of the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.
This training programe was developed by an international team of veterinarians, policy experts and small island developing state (SIDS), global aquaculture development specialists at AquaBioTech Group.
The fisheries and aquaculture sectors of the Maldives, like many other SIDS, are central to the nation’s economy, food security, and cultural identity.
In a constantly changing environmental and geopolitical environment these sectors face growing challenges associated with:
• The movement of live aquatic animals
• The emergence of trans-boundary diseases
• Climate variability
• Increasing international trade requirements
AquaBioTech Group is committed to working with partners such as the World Bank to support the Maldives (and other SIDS) in their aims to:
• Protect their unique marine ecosystems
• Support sustainable aquaculture development
• Facilitate aquaculture growth with international trade partners
This workshop and training session was part of the Ministry's project: Transforming Fisheries Sector Management in the South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives. Focusing on critical factors regarding bio-security associated with the import and export of living marine organisms, marine animals and their products.
