🏆 From Award Win to EU Success Story: Celebrating a Landmark Year for BCThubs!

As we approach the end of an incredibly productive year, we can announce that our Horizon Europe funded BCThubs project; coordinated by Inés Boujmil, in which AquaBioTech Group plays a key role as a Malta Hub partner, has been officially featured as a Success Story by the Initiative and the European Commission Maritime Affairs & Fisheries (EU MARE) 🌊

This recognition follows our recent win of the WestMED Best Project Award 2025 in the category and underscores the significant impact our consortium is making in the field of Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH) and Blue Culture Technology.

Furthermore, it provides an overview of how different simple traditional production systems can be integrated to create a more functional whole, which can assist small-scale farmers improve their financial viability, their food and nutrition security, and at the same time overcome the issue of climate change in the African continent.

𝗧𝗼𝗸𝘆𝗼, 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻, 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 – 𝗡𝗧𝗧 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 & 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 (“NTT G&F”) plans to begin construction in early 2026 on a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) project for Coho Salmon and Trout in the Koizumi district of Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture.

This project will introduce state-of-the-art 𝗥𝗔𝗦 technology in collaboration with AquaBioTech Group (ABTG), a global leader in aquaculture technologies and services headquartered in Malta, but operating internationally.

The new facility is part of NTT G&F’s initiatives to realise “sustainable local communities,” aiming to revitalise regional industries, create employment, and address local challenges through the use of digital technologies, with land-based aquaculture as a core pillar.

Upon completion in FY2026, the facility is expected to produce approximately 310 tons of market-size Trout Salmon annually, as well as about 260 tons of intermediate-size Coho Salmon for offshore aquaculture within the prefecture.

🐟 Two weeks ago, 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 joined 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁 in 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘅𝗹𝗼𝗸𝗸, Malta, an energetic celebration of fishing, community, and sustainability. It was amazing to connect with locals, fishermen, and other stakeholders to share knowledge and experiences.

During the event, we showcased our 𝗘𝗨-𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀:

Kicking Off Sustainability in 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲! 🌿🎓

This week, RDI Project Coordinator Stela Karović had the pleasure of visiting beautiful Prague, Czech Republic 🇨🇿, for an in-person 𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 project meeting. Over a day and a half, the team came together to discuss project activities and prepare to kick off the first semester of the master’s course.

The ECOLUTION MSc on 𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 is an advanced, interactive certified masters programme that equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the rapidly growing 𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙀𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 sector 🌍

👀 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹: 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 was honored to host delegates from the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) , including H.E. Linda Scott, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the UK and Northern Ireland, and H.E. Clifford Galea Vella, High Commissioner of Malta to Namibia, at AquaBioTech Group's headquarters in Malta.

During this visit, our CEO, Shane A. Hunter, and Director of Business Development, George D. Mantas, engaged in meaningful discussions about potential collaborations aimed at unlocking investments and promoting sustainable aquaculture and fisheries development in Namibia.

🐟 Namibia's rich maritime resources position it as a powerhouse in Southern Africa’s economic landscape. With 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟰𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀 of species such as hake, horse mackerel, and pilchard, the fishing sector plays a crucial role in the nation’s GDP and employment. Additionally, the emerging aquaculture sector holds immense potential for growth, as highlighted by esteemed organisations like the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸.

The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), represented by Mr. Francois van Schalkwyk Executive Director, Investments, Ms. Ndeyapo Shilongo CA (Nam), PMP®, Head of Strategy, and Ms. Tina Andima, Investment Promotion Attaché, at the meeting, are dedicated to fostering local and foreign investments, driving economic development, and creating job opportunities.

We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead as we work together to strengthen international partnerships and promote sustainable growth in Namibia’s aquaculture and fisheries sectors.
