ARE YOU IN A TELATIONSHIP OR MARRIED TO SPOUSE LIVING WITH HIV

A person living with HIV can be in a loving, intimate relationship with someone who is HIV negative, and not pass on the virus.

That’s the power of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART).
When taken consistently and correctly, ART suppresses the virus to levels so low that it becomes undetectable, and when HIV is undetectable, it is untransmittable.

This is what we call U=U:
Undetectable = Untransmittable.
☑️This is also known as Treatment as Prevention.
By taking their medication every day, a person living with HIV not only protects their own health, but also prevents transmission to their partner, even during unprotected s*x.

And yes, people living with HIV can also have HIV-negative children.
With proper treatment and medical support, they can give birth to babies free of the virus.

☑️This is not just medical progress, it’s freedom, hope, and life.
ART changes everything. It turns fear into love. It turns stigma into strength.

🩺Treatment works.
HIV doesn’t define your future.

QUICK FACTS ABOUT PrEP AND PEP ON PREGNANCY AND STI

PrEP and PEP only protect you from HIV, but they do not prevent pregnancy or other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). If you are using PrEP or PEP, remember that you are only protecting yourself from acquiring HIV, not from pregnancy or STIs. Using condoms alongside PrEP or PEP gives you fuller protection.

Because knowing your status is not a one-time thing, it's part of taking charge of your health.

You can be HIV negative today, but things can change. If you're s*xually active, especially with multiple partners or without using protection, there's always a chance of exposure. The only way to stay sure of your status is through regular testing.

Getting tested regularly:
✅ Helps detect HIV early if you’ve been exposed
✅ Allows you to start treatment early, before symptoms show
✅ Reduces the risk of unknowingly passing it to others
✅ Gives peace of mind and encourages safer decisions
✅ Supports a healthier community

Remember: The earlier HIV is detected, the better the outcomes. And if you’re negative, you can also learn about preventive tools like PrEP to stay protected.

So yes, even if you’re HIV negative, regular testing is smart, responsible, and lifesaving. ❤️

PrEP OPTIONS

In Malawi, we now have 3 options: Daily Oral PrEP, Event-Driven Oral PrEP and Injectable PrEP.

Let's Talk about Daily Oral PrEP. What is Daily Oral PrEP?

Daily Oral PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a daily pill taken by people who are HIV-negative to prevent getting infected with HIV.

Who can take Daily Oral PrEP?

Anyone who is HIV-negative and at high risk of getting HIV, such as those involved in or with;

1. Current or recent STI (last 6 months)
2. Transactional s*x: paid for condomless s*x, or received money or goods for condomless s*x, including s*x workers and clients
3. Condomless s*x with a regular partner who is know HIV infected with viremia 1000+ on their most recent Viral Load
4. Condomless s*x with regular partner with unknown HIV status who has other high risk s*xual partners
5. A**l in*******se with a non-regular partner without a condom
6. Injecting drug use with needle-sharing

How does PrEP work?

PrEP is taken BEFORE potential exposure to HIV. It prevents HIV from multiplying in your body, making it harder for the virus to infect you.

Is PrEP effective?

YES! PrEP is highly effective in preventing HIV infection when taken consistently and correctly.

Important: Don't skip a dose! Taking PrEP daily, at the same time, helps keep the medication levels consistent in your body, providing optimal protection against HIV.

Don't wait until it's too late! Talk to your doctor or healthcare provider about PrEP today!

PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a short-term course of medication used to prevent HIV after a recent possible exposure.
It only works before HIV establishes itself in the body usually within 72 hours of exposure.

If you’ve already been diagnosed with HIV, PEP will not work.
People living with HIV need ongoing daily treatment, not a short-term course like PEP.
Daily HIV treatment helps you stay healthy and live a long, full life and it also prevents transmission to others.

Know the difference. Act early. Stay informed.
